The Tangled Vine Look

Ala, "The Artist Otherwise Known as Prince", I'm considering changing my name to this here symbol of a tangled, mixed up vine. Its how I feel right now. Though not at all a fan of the singer formerly known as Prince, I do think his idea of using a symbol to refer to himself is quite intriguing and unique.

This photo was one of the last ones my camera produced before it gasped its final breath a couple weeks ago. Wild, weedy vines adorning fences and posts are fascinating, this one happening to be along the road where I walk. When I'm driving and an interesting vine comes into view, its a struggle to resist immediately pulling over to stop and contemplate the curling tangles.

One of my daughters has a head of naturally curly hair, often resembling the scene in the above photo. Here she is in black and white, taken on a warm, sunny afternoon last fall. There were times through the years when her curly locks were a great frustration to her......one time she asked, "Why did God give me crooked hair?" Now that she's older, though, appreciation is there, and she enjoys the variety of styles her hair will allow. She has one of those straighteners, and occasionally uses it, causing her to look like an entirely different person! Not often, though, for a full hour is required to accomplish the straightened hairdo look!

Have a great day, anyone who happens by this blog! Like I said, I'm not a Prince fan, but his symbol-for-a-name idea is prompting me to challenge YOU to consider what symbol you would use to signify yourself today.

I'm not sure what symbol I'd pick. Maybe a pick flower? Though right now an unorganized pile of clutter would more aptly symbolize me...

I am drawn to your blog for a couple of reasons.
First the name. It is beautiful.
Second the location. My late husband and I lived in IA for a short while.
Third because you are on a farm. I claim being a farmer (the first time in my life and I am 70 y/o). I own 8 acres in the desert in AZ and have appx. 2000 sq. ft. fenced off for a kitchen garden. Not much compared to you but at my age it is all I can manage. I enjoy reading your blog because you are a real farmer. It is a challenge?challange? Durn! wish I could spell! to do any farming here. The soil is pure desert. Sand and dirt. No kind of humus at all. Then I must fence it off from large animals. Coyotes, wild rabbits and another animal I can't think of right now. It eats the melons. Large hogwire fencing for the larger animals and small fencing for the small animals (the rabbits) then I found that the birds eat the seed as soon as I turn my back so I have it covered with bird netting. Now the only thing I have to fight is Bermuda grass (another story and a big mistake) and ants. Anyway, it keeps me active.

Symbol for a name? Maybe a plate of spagetti. I didn't sleep much last night. I will look forward to a better night tonight.

Jeannelle, I absolutely love this picture. It's very artistic. I love the vines against the snow and how they're on the post. I can't put pen to word to describe it, but as soon as I opened your blog, it caught my eye.

I am so sorry to hear about your camera. I would be distraught without my medium for my artistic endeavors. Try as I might, I cannot dream of one for you. I am sending camera thoughts your way and hoping that somehow, some way, a camera will find its way to you.

Always a pleasure stopping by here.

Kacey,

Maybe you should do a "clutter photo" challenge!! HaHa. I would win.....my house is very cluttered.

Your flower photos from California were such a treat to see on your blog!

Thanks for stopping by!

Connie,

Thank you for visiting here again, too, and for your nice comment about the blog's title. Down at the bottom of the blog I just put in a labels section, and if you click "first post", it tells where the blog's title came from. I have to go there to remind myself sometimes!

Yes, this is a "real" farm.....cow manure adorns my boots everyday. (I rinse it off before coming back to the house.)

But, you sound like a "real" gardener to me!! Good for you! And amid all those intruding critters! (And you did have "challenge" spelled right the first time!) I can't imagine having the type of soil you do there in AZ, either.

Its fun to hear about your acreage!
Do you have a blog? If so, send me the link. Its fun to hear from folks in other parts of the country.

Where in Iowa did you live?

Thanks, CountryGirl! I really liked this photo, too.

Please.....I'm not complaining really about the camera thing.....before long I'll get one picked out to buy. There's a stockpile of photos in my computer to work on.

Thanks for stopping by!

Okay then, I suppose I'd use as my symbol........
A bag of potato chips.

Or maybe a donut.

Or wait, what's a symbol for sarcastic????

This is Connie again, just in case I can't find another way to get to you. My blog is www.downonthefarm.blogspot.com

and it is nice visiting with you. Oh yes, my late husband and I lived in Davenport. I lose my landmarks when in the middle of the country. I can't tell you how many times I crossed THE RIVER and ended up in Moline before I discovered that I had once again turned the wrong way.

Hey, Connie,

When I type in the web address you gave, I get only a blank page.

Mary,

Thanks dropping in! Sarcasm is a habit of mine and it gets me in trouble. What its symbol is....I have no clue.

Everyone,

Its fun to read your symbol choices! You know, I think Prince made his up.....that would be a further challenge for us.

Another nice post jeannelle and your photos are worth a visit alone. I'm thinking about the symbol, hmmmm...I'll have to think about that one for a bit.

Cool pic of the tangled whatever it was--for some reason it made me think of the cross.

If I had a picture that I would want to describe me it would be a sunbeam--ha--that reminds me of the child's song---something to do with Jesus wants me for a sunbeam, a sunbeam--or am I confused?

nannykim,

Yes, I remember that old Sunday School song, "Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam".....to shine for Him each day! That sounds like a very appropriate symbol for you!!
