Round Barn

Yesterday’s post prompted me to unearth an old photo album to find this scene from the farm I grew up on:

Round barn and pigs I snapped this for a 4-H photography project, probably in 1970.  Taking pictures was a whole different ballgame back then.  Relatively few photos were taken as film was usually used quite sparingly.  The round barn was built in the early 1920’s.  It was badly damaged by a tornado a few years ago and had to be torn down.  I regret never taking any photos of the barn’s interior up in the haymow.  The roof’s wooden support structure was quite amazing to see.

  2. You grew up here - how awesome is that! Love the round barn. The whole scene is lovely. I was in
4-H back around that time too.
Your composition is wonderful. You knew what you were doing even back then. :)

  4. I love this! It's even better that you grew up here. I grew up on a farm, but don't have any pictures of the barn and now it's gone. Glad you have this one!

  5. The barn is cool, but I can't get over seeing the hogs in the snow. The breed of hogs raised these days would never be able to stand that. I love seeing them.

  6. This is an awesome barn and I love the old picture. I have never seen anything like it. Amazing structure. Round houses for trains but have never heard of round barns for the cows :-) genie

  15. This is an awesome photo! Round barns are quite rare. The roof inside would be designed similar to a cathedral. It's nice that you still have that photo. Have you thought of giving a copy to the local historical society if there is one?
