Oats Are Up!

The oats go marching row by row......hurrah.....hurrah!

Yes, the oats are growing nicely, as you can see. At least something in a field is!! No one has planted corn yet in this area, but many tractors, tillage implements, and anhydrous ammonia tanks were out in fields today, preparing possibly for a day of frantic corn-planting tomorrow, as rain is in the forecast for the next day!

I may be in the field tomorrow, too........Husband hinted this evening that he plans to have me run the chisel plow on the morrow. I noticed he hooked the plow up to the AGCO-Allis 8785.......that's the tractor with the loader on it.......how idiotic.......to drive back and forth across the field with that big bucket hanging in the air above the tractor.

I attended my son's high school play, "Happily Ever Once Upon", TWICE.......Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. The title could just as well have been, "Beyond the Glass Slipper".........the setting was twenty years into the marriage of Cinderella and Prince Charming........he now known as King Charming, or "Charm" for short. Cinderella was "Cindy". Their kingdom was in bankruptcy, so Charm was trying to find a way to refill the treasury. His right-hand-man, Jason, suggested they try to locate Rumplestilskin, by now, surely, an old man, but possibly still able to make gold from straw.

Cinderella's fairy godmother, Melba, was part of the plot. She had just returned from Hollywood and a lackluster B movie career. She stated she had once attended "junior fairy godmother prom" with Rumplestilskin, and was anxious to see him again.

Also making an appearance was Cinderella's cousin, Goldilocks, who was coming off several years of therapy following her traumatic run-in with the bear family. Other residents of King Charming's kingdom included Pied Piper, Tom Thumb, Magic Mirror, and Red Riding Hood.

Maybe someone can tell me which fairy tale "Jason" belongs to.........he had a feathered arm, from which he painfully pulled a quill to write with. Or is he from a Greek myth? Also, the name, Melba, does not ring any fairy tale bells in my mind.

(P.S. --- In the dictionary, "Jason" has this description: "The Greek hero who led the expedition of the Argonauts and with Medea's help secured the Golden Fleece." [Perhaps Melba is supposed to be Medea?] I vaguely now remember hearing of Jason.)

My son played Rumplestilskin.........who in this play was a fraud and a drunk. He only PRETENDED to make gold from straw.......imagine that. For his services he would accept champagne as payment.

As it turned out, the financial worries were solved by Cinderella's sudden inspiration to allow tourism in the Enchanted Kingdom........fellows by the name of Hans Christian Andersen and the Grimm Brothers were among the first visitors.
