View From The Cab

If you thought it would be the view from a taxi cab, you're mistaken. Yesterday morning I drove the AGCO Allis 8085, pulling the chisel plow. This first photo is the view out the front window of the cab; the loader bucket is still attached, and the arms holding it flank each side of the tractor:

Next we have the view out the back window of the cab......looking down on the chisel plow, of course:

In this next photo, I have just pulled the hydraulic lever to lift the plow out of the ground during a turn-around at the end of the field. The tractor's rear wheel fender is in the foreground as the tight U-turn is negotiated.

Below is one of several mirrors attached to the cab, allowing the tractor driver to see what's going on to the rear. Mostly, though, I just sit side-ways and look back on a regular basis to make sure everything's working OK.......meaning I'll have a stiff, sore neck this evening.

There, we're done already. That didn't take long, did it. You can see what a lovely morning it was, with fluffy clouds dotting the sky. This field will be planted with corn eventually......we hire our planting done, so now it will be a waiting game until the guy has time to plant our fields.

Moving along, rhythmically, in the tractor, back and forth across a field for several hours seems to project me into another dimension. I end up thinking about acquaintances, things, occurrences, that aren't normally on my mind. Its silly, but it almost makes me wonder if there are pockets or currents of thought waiting out there in the field for someone to pass through. Its rather like a dreamscape normally traversed during sleep.

Lovely, dark earth! I used to help my Dad with plowing a bit, way back when. We plowed just under 200acres (160 of that leased), and grew ArkWin seed oats. Our tractor was a small Farmall, probably not as large as some cars I've driven since then.
Your pondering on "pockets of thoughts" was lovely. Seems to work that way, sometimes.

Hi, Pat!

That's interesting that you grew seed oats! I just love a blue-green field of waving oats....before they turn to golden for harvest. Your 200 acres of oats must have been very beautiful in late June or so.

Thanks for stopping by!

I do understand those pockets of thought! They're all over my backyard, and when I work out there I run into them all time. I thought I was the only one that happened to :)

caution,

Whew.....I'm relieved someone else understands what I was trying to say about the thoughts that came along out in the field. Yes, it happens when I'm mowing lawn, too.

Tee hee, I wasn't duped for a second. I knew you were referring to a tractor. We have a baby one. Allis WD45. But Parker insisted I learn to drive it. He can barely do it now, given that the steering is shot....takes too much muscle to turn it. That is a summer project he has planned. I love the fields, so beautiful as the seed starts to come up.
