This photo was taken from our mailbox this afternoon, looking toward the southeast.........Cedar Rapids is located in that direction, about 60 miles away, as the crow flies. You can see the dark blue cloud mass over that area in the distance. Besides the massive flooding going on today in CR, there are also heavy rains falling there, adding insult to much injury.

Another thing I've noticed the past couple days is a low, deep rumble coming from the south. I think that would have to be the sound and vibration of all that water rushing through in the Cedar River, which runs northwest to southeast, about 14 miles south of us, as it heads toward Cedar Rapids.
And once more, I'll have to say........the clouds have been simply fascinating during this past week with the storm fronts coming and going.

It's almost incomprehensible. How will people recover from this?
That flood is unbelieveable. I heard ten feet about flood stage once, then thirty feet. That had to mean the water is...thirty feet deep????? At least that's how far over the banks it's gone, right?

We've watched the TV reports from CR yesterday and now again today. The water supply is a serious issue right now.....the well fields are flooded, electrical substations are flooded......it sounds like just a mess.
The water is supposed to crest this afternoon......at a level 12 feet ABOVE the former record flood of 1929! The downtown buildings have their first floors completely filled.
Iowa City is next......they are going to get hit really bad, too, from a different river even, the Iowa, which is overflowing the Coralville Reservoir.
And I just talked to my daughter in Des Moines, and things aren't good there, either.

Some way or another, people recover. I remember flooding to this extent in Missouri - it is a figment of our imagination now, so many years later. I so feel for all the misplaced Iowans - what a miserable time to have to endure!
As far as the beauty out of misery, your photo is just a thing of wonder. Thank you so very much for sharing.

I thought I had already commented, but must have been dreaming. A nice photo, Jeannelle, and interesting (though saddening) information about the flooding in your area.
Your bad weather is now making our news over here.. I am sure the weather is changing in many places from what a I see on TV and read first hand on many of the blogs..
It's great that we can take this time to admire the skies but still have time a plenty to think about the folks who are suffering through the weather right now.
