Bouncing Bet - Soapwort

Returning to the current local wildflower scene, here's a new gal on the block........"Bouncing Bet"..........cute name, eh?

***************

There seems to be more varieties of wildflowers appearing this year than usual; Husband thinks its due to the overabundance of rain we've been blessed with this spring and summer.

****************

If you're so inclined, go to the Prime Focus - Iowa website to learn Bouncing Bet's scientific name. That's a very lovely and informative website, but rarely comes up on a Google search.......for me, anyhow.

******************

Bouncing Bet is also known as Soapwort.........that name being explained on this Connecticut Botanical Society website, and on good old dependable Wikipedia.

******************

A few minutes ago I started to walk out to the road to take another look at Bouncing Bet, and maybe crush a bloom to see if really does result in a soapy froth. But........a dark shadow passed across the path ahead.......yikes.......it was one of those creepy turkey vultures, flying low! Oh, I don't care for them.......I don't think they would pounce on a living, moving person, but it gave me the willies and I headed back here to the house........screaming and waving my arms (not really).

**************

**************

Hope you're having a great day.......and weren't turned off by the cow's tongue-in-nostril trick on the previous post. The Holstein gals are quite proud of their ability to do that, and they'd been badgering me to show you!!

Jeannelle, thanks so much. You are helping me identify all the flowers in my meadow! You have the names of a few I didn't know and this is one of them.

OH, btw, you've been memed by me. Come to my blog and join in if you wish. I'll be posting in a couple hours I hope. Have to list 6 more names! lol.

Bouncing bet is such a prettier name for a cute flower than Soapwort! Good picture. I love hunting down wildflowers and their names.

oh my goodness....can they really do that?! I guess so...there it is in living colour. Well, that will rival those nose pickers I am stuck beside in traffic jams in the morning rush hour! HA...have a great day Jeannelle...I guess it is evening.

Hi, Sherry, Kacey, Trish!

You know, I had NEVER heard of "Bouncing Bet" before finding this flower the other day.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Have fun hunting wildflowers in your areas, too!
