New Coneflower Style

Hey, forget raunchy ol' Pimp Daddy from the previous post........take a look at these coneflowers. First, here's the standard variety of Echinacea purpurea that's been growing for years in my perennial flower garden.

Now.......since variety IS the spice of life, here's a new style coneflower, planted this spring, called "Pink Double Delight". Don't they look just like zinnias?!

Coneflowers are probably my all-time favorite perennial flower.......they can tolerate poor soil and dry conditions, they spread nicely, are very sturdy, and provide long-lasting blooms that flower into late summer. Then those prickly, round seed heads remain, adding interest to the flower garden in autumn.

We should all pray and strive to be like coneflowers!! It thrives even when the gardener neglects it!

Have a great day! We'll be baling hay this afternoon.......isn't that exciting!! I'll try to remember to tote my camera along in the tractor to get some shots of the baler in action.

I just love the doubles. I'd never seen that one before. I like the white too. I have had wonderful luck in saving the seeds from those big seed heads and adding new beds. Just clip the entire head and save in a jar until the following spring.

I love love love love love those kinds of flowers. HOWEVER!!!! I had 4 of them and only one came back up this year. Our fire ants killed some and I have no idea what happened to the others!! WEIRD--but they are so cheerful and bloom for such a long time--I will have to replace them next year. This year I threw in some seed and some really pretty cone like flowers came up. Not sure what they are?

Hi one and all!

Thanks for dropping by and commenting! Yes, coneflowers are the greatest! Wow....I'm thankful not to have fire-ants here, though....sorry for anyone who has those.

Cone flowers are also one of my favorites. I have them planted all around our pool and they make me smile all summer.
