Rue is a fascinating word. It can mean "to be sorry for; regret". Or, in French......"a street". Or, "a plant of the Mediterranean region with leaves that have a strong smell and a bitter taste." (Probably, you would suffer "regret" if you tasted them!)

That sad little poem above, "With Rue My Heart Is Laden", is familiar to me for some reason. It seems I may have sung it years ago as a solo for music contest in high school. It's title resides in the same cubicle of my mind as two other songs that I definitely recall singing:
and
Our vocal music teacher assigned songs for us to sing; I didn't choose these.

Have a wonderful day! I don't know about you, but I'm shocked that we're past the middle of July already!! Where does summer go?

I like Houseman, even though he's old-fashioned.
I'm shocked by the date too.
Hi, Ruth!
Thanks for dropping in! Our phone/internet line was zapped by lightning during the night and we just now got hooked up again.
Have a good day!
I also like Houseman's poems, especially "When I Was One and Twenty" and "Loveliest of These The Cherry Now" and I believe he also wrote "To an Athlete Dying Young"....
How delightful to be treated to a little Houseman tonight. Thanks for stopping by the post today. And Radar says 'woof woof - nope...he just does NOT woof....something more like nrrrgarhh shlecurgurgle...ooops Nope, that is when he is pulling on his lead nearly choking on his collar and barking at the cat...hmmm...well...anyway. He says hello :(
Rue, that's an interesting word.
At first it jumped out at me, because from my German background, Rue means quiet, peaceful, restful.
Interesting.
I have never seen Tall Meadow Rue. We don't have that around these parts I don't believe.
