Blue-Tailed Butterfly

I wasn't going to blog for awhile, but........... after baling hay all afternoon today, I was walking down to the mailbox when this butterfly suddenly struck a photo pose, and I just couldn't resist:

Other than monarchs, I'm ignorant of butterfly types and names, so maybe someone can enlighten me about this one. Light yellow is the main color. Thanks.

Hi, Jeannelle. That's a beautiful butterfly. I Googled around but couldn't come up with anything definitive. My best guess is a Tiger Swallowtail, but there are SO many butterflies to look at, and I could be a hundred miles wrong. Marvin, at Nature in the Ozarks could most likely tell you. He can be contacted by email at nature.marvin at gmail dot com. Bet he'd be nice enough to come take a look at it. His blog is elmostreport.blogspot.com

I, too, am ignorant in the butterfly department. It's pretty, though! But that, unfortunately, doesn't help you.

What a beautiful butterfly. I don't have the foggiest idea on what it might be though. Look forward to someone out there giving you an answer so we all can know as well. What a treat to capture it so well....=)

Happy Days...............

If you change "Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care" to "Jeannelle cracked corn and I don't care, and if you change something about "a blue-tail fly" to "a blue-tail butterfly," you just may have the makings of a song on your hands....

I think it's a female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.

That is a beautiful butterfly! I was in an art store in Ames yesterday and saw a beautiful photograph of this same one! The blue is most distinctive.

I liked your post about UNI! I graduated from there in 1977 and recognize Sabin Hall in the background!! I used to work in the building next to it - Seerley Hall - as a student work student.

Your words and images brought back a lot of memories!! Thanks!! And, oh yes, Go Panthers!!! Heh!!

Isn't he gorgeous and more importantly, his little mission, to lift your tired spirit and make you see the beauty, - that makes him quite special

LOL. Just how do you get them to stay in the pose long enough? I never can get close enough to snap the photo before they skiddishly flit off. Dumb butterflies. Lovely pic though Jeannelle.

Hi, trish!

Thanks for stopping in! That's the best thing, to always be aware of God's creation around us!

Russell,

That's cool you went to UNI.....I guess I figured you were an ISU grad. And, neat you saw that butterfly picture at the art store. Coincidences are one of my favorite things!

odd chick,

Oh, I like that thought.....that even the butterfly has a mission....that's really good to remember!

*******

Sherry,

Oh, I certainly don't make them pose. I just followed this one for awhile and then sneaked up on him after he alighted on the evergreen branch. Rarely do they open their wings so well for my camera!
