Cloudbank & Brownies

Barren refrigerator and pantry shelves prompted a trip to the grocery store yesterday. All the way home, I had my eye on that cloudbank in the distance, hoping to get a photo at some point. I love the magical glow of mellow golden sunsets in mid to late summer.

Our food supply was low on items needed to fill my son's detasseling lunch cooler each morning........turkey, cheese, buns for sandwiches; Nacho Doritos; Little Debbie Nutty Bars; Gatorade. Sounds really nutritious, doesn't it.......but, its what he asks for! I sneak in carrots and grapes, too, but he doesn't eat them. GR-R! Dern kid.

Yesterday morning I baked Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake Marbled Brownies. Wow......what a mouthful to say......and to eat!! The link to these very delicious brownies came from Sherry's blog, A Feather Adrift, several months ago. I omit the chocolate chips........for us, there's enough richness without them.

I had baked the brownies, and made sandwiches, for Husband to take to Aaron's family yesterday, all congregated at his parents' farm. Usually, there's not much more you can do for a grieving family than pray and let them know you are on their side, and take them some food, of course. These brownies are good for such an occasion......they are substantial and sturdy, and can withstand sitting around for a couple days, whether eaten at home or at the funeral home or church. You just never know where sympathy food will end up, or how long it may have to sit. Some brownies get dry and stale-tasting right away, but these don't. Normally, cooking is not a subject on my blog, but I do highly recommend this recipe!

After Husband got home from Aaron's parents', I asked him how everyone was holding up over there. The busyness of tasks that need attended to keeps everyone going at first........it surely is the salvation of Aaron's parents, right now. His dad was out and about, checking on various jobsites; his mom was holding down the fort there at home, and Aaron's wife was there, too, although Husband didn't see her.
*****
One of Aaron's coworkers was there at the house and related details of the accident to Husband. Aaron had jumped down into a 14-foot-deep trench to probe for a sewer pipe. My goodness, Aaron......why did you do a risky thing like that.......14-feet down is pretty darn deep. Its understandable why a successful rescue was impossible after that much dirt caved in! It took three hours to finally get him out.
*****
My route home from the grocery store took me past the lovely acreage where Aaron and his wife lived.......in a unique old farmhouse surrounded by a sprawling expanse of trees and neatly-mowed lawns. Lots of mowing for someone to do. Oh, my. I truly feel so sad for his wife. My son told me he drove by there on his way home from detasseling the day before the accident and saw Aaron busy at mowing the lawn.
*****
Anyhow.......thank you for thoughts and prayers for Aaron's family........and do try the brownie recipe!!

Hi Jeannelle,

I am sorry to hear about Aaron and his family. That is a sad story, but it was nice of you to make them brownies.

Since you had so much success with the peanut butter cream cheese brownies, I wanted to recommend another peanut butter & chocolate brownie you might like. This one is marbled, but does not contain the cream cheese. The brownies have a strong peanut butter flavor.

Thanks again for stopping by my blog and linking to the recipe :).

Thanks for the visit - I like the variety on your blog - that's what I try to do too. We're about the same age and I always like to look at the "about me" and see all the things in common. Sorry about your friend - I've lost two friends sincce March - seems too soon to be losing friends...

WOW. Such a serious loss to both a family and a community. Please keep us posted on the family.

Hi, anna!

Thanks for dropping by and for the additional recipe suggestion. That will be a good one to use when I don't have cream cheese on hand. I will have to surf on over to explore more of your "cookie madness".....cute!

Hi, Diane!

Thanks for swinging by here! Any connection to Thyra Ferri Bjorn who wrote "Papa's Wife" and "Papa's Daughter"?

Once again.....your "COEXIST" motto speaks volumes.....everyone should go take a look!

Hi Jeannelle. I love the photo. Would make a nice Sky Watch. I did my first one today! Glad the brownies were good. I was thinking that I might make brownies after the cheesecake is gone! lol. My prayers are with your neighbors. Parker says that line of work is fraught with danger. sigh

Oh this makes me sad. But I do love how people come together to try and ease the pain of losing a loved one. I just hope people don't forget to check after it all settles down. Often the worst time then.
