Very-Vain Vervain

We humans are invariably vain, never satisfied with the veritable way things are, searching for ways to spruce-up our vital appearance, "improving" the way we look........so is our virtual illusion, anyway. Who would have thought that this trait of vanity also inhabits wildflowers?! Down in the vale of our road ditch this bluish-violet colored variant of the Vervain/Verbena Family is so VERY-VAIN that it demanded a verved-up version of its original photo. Sheesh.......but, OK.......though its vexing to do so, I'll oblige, though I don't see the value of it.......

(Hm-m.......on second thought, this photo might be fit to post on the blog called
Paintbox Pictures, an offshoot of Wiggers World, an EXCELLENT blog from the U.K.)

Below is the original photo.......and, verily, it is a vaguely pale comparison to the gaudy scene above. HOWEVER, do you see what I see in the background of the photo? In the vicinity of the right side? I hereby vaticinate that that little thing will be the subject of a post on this blog in the very near future (after I do some volitient research). Perhaps it is the vivarium of a vizarded viceroy.......or a little spaceship from Venus......I'll try to find out for you, so you can vicariously visit this special spot in an Iowa road ditch.

(By the way, my voyage through the "V" section of the dictionary volume was great fun! This is fascinating.......did you know that the word "veronica" is versatile and can mean:

1. A group of plants of the figwort family.....

*

2. A cloth or ornament bearing a representation of Christ's face......

*

3. A maneuver in bullfighting, in which the matador slowly turns with the cape without moving his feet, as the bull rushes toward him.....(If I witnessed such an event, I'd be inclined to shout a vivid vivat to the matador!)

"Viva, blog readers!!!"

Wow. I coulda had a V-8. But I'm so glad I stopped here today.

Lots of changes, Jeannelle. When I first heard the music, I thought oh no. (I don't like music on blogs) but it's NICE! I can't find a playlist, though.

Can anyone join the paintbox website? I've visited it a couple of times and recognize bloggers. Some of the pictures are just wonderful. Miz Booshay did a post yesterday on Pioneer Woman's site about paintbox pictures.

Have a great day, Jeannelle! I'm off to take a pup out on a walk. I think he's fallen asleep waiting for me.

Countrygirl,

Whoops......the music isn't supposed to play automatically.....I'll need to go back and change something.

Yes anyone can join Paintbox Blog......email instructions in the sidebar of that blog.

Voila! O venerator of violet vicissitudes, the verisimilitude of the vixenish, virginal verbena-like vervane, very vivacious, veritably convincing, non-vindictive, a "veni, vidi, vici" moment in life's vast, invincible, victorious vlogosphere, I mean, blogosphere.

And I didn't even have to open a dictionary.

I feel a post about Vlad the Impaler coming on. (jk)

Your contrasting photos are fun.

And yes, I did know that about the name Veronica.

I always thought it would be cool to name someone Veronica Christine, which would mean true image of Christ, but it might be too much of a burden for any child. It would be a great name for a fictional character though.

But I don't know how to spell "vervain," alas.

rhymesie,

Oh, lordy.

Believe it or not, I did think of you when I was choosing V-words from the dictionary pages; I thought, "Yup, I'll bet rhymesie will know all these words."

So, now I just pulled out the V encyclopedia and opened to a page......hey, have you ever heard of Michael George Francis Ventris? It says he solved one of the great mysteries of archeology.....cool. I'll bet you could have, too.

(Sure wish I could have caught that vervain mispelling before you did!!!)

**********

Hi, Ruth!

Oh, yes, what a meaning-laden name that would be! I've been acquainted with only one Veronica and never knew the name's meaning before this.

Have a wonderful day!!

No, I had never heard of George Michael Francis Ventris, but now, thanks to you, I have!

I now know about Linear B also, about the solving of which Sir Arthur Evans, if he were alive, would undoubtedly say (at the risk of being considered sacrilegious in certain circles), "Ventris, ptui!"

(I'm a punster from the word go!)

rhymeswithplague,

I and others enjoy your "punstering" very much! I can't keep up with you, but you're definitely an inspiration!

(I've been acquainted with a couple other people from "the word go"......that must be quite a place.)

Okay, this voluminous vituprative vivacity is catching. The net, someone call for the net! I love vervain and you are so lucky to have found the butterfly in the making. What kind of plant was it metamophosing on? It looks like its gone by and browned? Anyhoo, it looks like a little body bag. I think Bob should be tied up before he does a Vlad the impaler post. Creepy!

Hi, Sherry,

That's funny....a little body bag....and that's what it is! Its hanging on a dried-brown Meadow Rue stalk.

Yeah, the "V" word thing just took on a life of its own!

Thanks for stopping by!
