Bright Weeds & Co.

One morning last week, a red glow in our farthest fenceline caught my eye, so I just had to venture out there to take a closer look:
*
Amazing that a weed could be so beautiful! This is the honest truth: Its been many years since we've had such a bright, vivacious autumn around here!! The weather conditions have to be just right to prompt the plant chemicals to work their colorful magic.
*
As you can see, the cornfield was still quite green early last week........that's rapidly changing, however, and before long corn harvesting will be in full swing. Its running late this year due to the bad spring we had.
*
Just some leaves that need to be swept up:
*
During the summer, I several times almost pulled up this weedy plant shown in the next photo, but fortunately something stopped me each time, for this "weed" provides colorful companionship for the pumpkins! The flower may be some sort of wild coreopsis, though I'm not sure. The petals are about 3/8 to 1/2- inch wide and have three scallops on their tips. A migrating bird must have brought the seed as a gift from afar!

*

And, lastly........a kitty photo for good measure!! Ok, readers.......altogether now, in unison: "AW-W, what an adorable face!"

*

A cheerful day to you!

[Here are links to two stories that caught my eye in yesterday's Waterloo Courier:

The subject of this first article was my physician during one of my pregnancies many years ago. I liked him just fine at the time; he was pleasant and seemed kind. He would tell me about his house calls to the Amish community to deliver babies, and about his motorcycle-riding. It was very sad to hear of his later (hopefully, later) involvement with drugs.

The second article of interest is about a drunk guy who caused mayhem with a combine. It would not be a laughing matter, of course, but can you imagine waking up in the middle of the night to the absurdity of a huge combine crashing around in your yard?! We watched a combine demolition derby one time.......quite hilarious.

As usual, Jeannelle, the photos are so very nice. I too think that there is a bit more red in the foliage this year. We have mostly soft maples so we get a dull yellow on most, not the vibrant oranges and reds I so like. But a few here and there do make a difference. Thanks for the beauty!

AW-W! I do love kitties!

Your autumn foliage photos are great! Not much color here, yet, but it's still quite warm.

Loved the deer photos. I don't often get to see deer up close, and had never noticed the darkness on their tails. Good eye, Ms. J.
