Yesterday, a tractor tire went flat, and I took it to town for repair. On the way home I took gravel roads through the Denver Hills area, providing more gorgeous autumn scenes to photograph.......AND, look who else showed up to pose for pictures.......the Mickey Deer Club Trio!
For a few moments, we just stared at each other. Then the threesome took off a-runnin'. It was a cinch to see why they're called White-Tail deer!

In this next photo, notice how dark the TOPS of their tails are. Everything in nature exists for a reason, even the animal appearances. The purpose is usually to help them blend and survive, isn't it? Does the deer's tail help serve that purpose? Seems like it makes them more noticeable. At first glance, though, that middle deer's tail shouts "SKUNK" to me. A predator seeing that might hesitate for a moment, giving the deer time to start running away. That's my first thought, anyhow, and it might not be correct.
They turned and gave one more thoughtful gaze before disappearing into the leafy jumble of trees and underbrush:

I love these pictures. Deer can be so hard to photgraph.
I wish I knew the reasons for the tail coloring.
Great pictures! I tried to take a picture of some deer in my yard, but it didn't take cause it was so dark.
Those are adorable! Being a city girl I only see these in photos, on TV or in the zoo.
I love when the deer come visiting... I hate when they are on the roads and hit by autos... we were in a wereck several years back in mikes work truck, a HUGE buck came from nowhere in the middle of the CITY and i barely had time to scream DEER before we hit it... over 8000.00 damage to the truck and of course a dead deer that had we been in anything besides the truck we would have been killed. and of course there is always venison ...please no one throw rocks ... but its good :)
Love the photos you got!
Hi, Ruth,
This is the first time I've been able to get pictures of deer, except for one blurry one last year.

Hi, Nancy,
Thanks for stopping by! That's neat you had a deer in your yard, though, to see up close, even if you didn't get a picture.

Hi, fifi flowers,
Cute name you have! Thanks for stopping by! It was fun seeing these deer. I'm glad they stood and stared at me for awhile before they ran off!

Hi, Laura,
My goodness......that accident sounds dreadful. I'm glad none of you were hurt. When my younger daughter was in high school, she hit deer FOUR times.....avoiding injury each time, thankfully. The car was a dented up mess, though, by the time she was done with it!! We called her "The Deer Magnet"!

mike does the hauling with the back hoe, I was knocking it out of the stump with a stick and ax and hatchet so the dirt would not put the fire out... I was playing more than working i think...
mashed taters slathered in butter sounds good... I kinda burnt out on pepsi ages ago... we drank it all the time!
my problem with the cloth bags is I keep them in the truck most the time or the living room floor by the door but several times i was in the car (no bags) or they were right here and I walked out with out them... but i think the more i use them the better i will be a remembering them... I do really like them but we also use the grocery bags as trash can liners so sometimes its good to forget :)
Thanks for sharing these awesome pictures. I haven't ever seen anything like this before in person. They are beautiful.
Great series...I do wonder why their tails are so dark on top, though.
Great photos Jeannelle but I have to say I am not very fond of deer at the moment. They have eaten most of my plants this fall and it is frustrating. Grrrr!
Hi, laura, suz, rose, egghead,
Thanks for swinging by! I'm sorry to hear what a nuisance the deer are in egghead's yard. Fortunately, we never see them around our buildings or yard.....although we do see them in the distance in the fields.
Great pics as usual Jeannelle. I love to play with deer. It's fun on horseback, they really don't spook at the horses, and don't see the riders. But I love playing move and don't move with them. they just stare so intently, and occassionally they start to move toward you out of curiosity. Of course, such activity can only be done alone, Dogs really screw up the fun, since they cannot stop chasing.
