Old Farm Buildings

Today's a busy day.........I'm all wrapped up in cooking for a football team supper tonight. But, I wanted to mention a new blog........Steve Crain's Art. I spotted him on my blog followers' list. He posts lovely original watercolor paintings and drawings. I admire anyone who can paint pictures! Odd Chick's blog features her own artwork, too.

Anyhow......Steve Crain likes to paint old farm houses and buildings, so in light of that, here's an old barn from my area:

Also, yesterday, AdventureGirlWannaBe's blog featured photos of a very unique old farm building. I've never seen one quite like it!
*
Old barns and buildings are disappearing rapidly from the landscape.......if not by human will, then by windstorms, or even a tornado, like we had last spring. Every farmstead in the neighborhood where I grew up was destroyed or heavily damaged. Anyhow......its nice to know we can remember old structures through artwork and photography! Don't hesitate to take pictures of old buildings in your area!

thank you for the link and I really enjoyed Crain's art and wannabe's photos of old barns. I love the way you connect and network your friends. You are so right about these old barns, they are antiques in a landscape - rarely noticed

That old barn would have been quite a large one in it's day. And is still in pretty good shape too. The corn looks so yellow. Is it for grain rather than silage? Corn silage has been in full harvest around here for the last week. Dairymary

I really like that photo.

This must be a super busy time on a farm.

If old barns could talk, they would captivate us with their history stories. I love to see old barns and am always on the look out for them when we travel.

Great photo........

I love old barns and have been collecting photos of them for a while now. At some point I am going to do a blog of barns around our area.

Hi, odd chick,

Actually.....deep inside of me is a busybody matchmaker wannabe! I truly do admire you folks who can paint pictures. I'd be scared to even try, I think.

Dairymary,

Yes, you're right.....it is a large barn for its day. When my husband was growing up, an older couple still milked cows there. Now the barn stands empty. I think its probably structurally quite sound, so it would be nice if it was repainted and kept up.

The corn is waiting to be dry enough to combine. Silage chopping is done around here.

egghead,

That will be fun to see your barn blogpost in the future! Each old barn is unique, which makes each one very special.
