The birds must like 'em! See the stems picked clean in this next photo:

I do have respect for my elder Berrys. My grandmother's maiden name was Berry!

My Nana lived in Northern CA. when I was growing up. She lived in a cute, old little town down a dusty road.....there were elderberry bushes growing along side of that road. She would make elderberry jam in the fall. It was SO GOOD!

I have not seen an elderberry plant in many, many years.......they are so pretty.

I've read about elberberries in so many novels. Never tasted them, though. Do you do anything with the berries, Jeannelle?

I love the pun.

I've often considered planting a few elderberry bushes. The photos entice me to think about it further.

Beautiful pictures both today and yesterday, Jeanelle! You obviously enjoy taking the time to photograph nature. Thank you for sharing. Dairymary

I have a tree behind our house that looks just like that. The leaves, the blossoms in the summer and now the berries. I am assuming it is an elderberry tree but the berries are still not ripe...to cold I guess now.

Hi, rose, laura, deserthen, cautiom flag, mary, ruth, dairymary, egghead,

From your comments, it sounds like elderberries must grow all over the U.S. Actually, I've never used them in cooking, or even eaten one! That's terrible, I know. The only wild berries I've eaten are black raspberries. But, maybe next year I'll get brave and use some elderberries.....

Are elder berries and poke berries related? The last photo in your series looks similar to things I see growing up and down my lane, and I'd seen a blog post once that named them Poke Berries. I suppose I should do my own research in my own geography, huh? Nice pictures, though! And inspiration too (to go figure my berries out).
