Last week, the weather had the upper hand and all basketball games were postponed. Finally, last evening, a game took place---against our arch-rivals down the road to the west.....The Cyclones. Oh, I was so hoping this first photo of the game would turn out.......it looks like my son--#21--just barely has the upper hand here in the opening tip-off jump......unfortunately, his tongue is hanging out. Ack. Maybe that helped him to jump higher!
Next......he's taking a jump shot......which did go in! Click the photo to see the festively-attired student cheering section in the background. By golly, I do believe we have a good foot-race in the makings here!!
Number 21 shall from henceforth be known as "Sir Fouls-A-Lot! In every game so far this season, he has found himself in foul trouble. In the next photo, Sir Fouls-A-Lot is waiting for the official call that he has fouled out, so he can sit down on the bench. In the center of the bottom row of lighted numbers on the scoreboard is glaring notice that #21 has 5 fouls! The good thing is that the game is almost over.......the guy Son fouled made his free-throw and we ended up losing by three points. It was a stinging defeat, for we especially dislike losing to The Cyclones, our local arch-rival.
It was SO awfully cold last night. What a relief when Son finally got home from the game and Daughter pulled in safely from working her evening shift at Kohls. I'm very glad they have cell phones in case of an emergency, and particularly in weather like we're having right now. The extreme cold is so dangerous.......I'm quite sure that if, say, you were driving alone and ended up in the ditch and knocked out from a bump on the head, you would freeze to death in a matter of minutes.

Stay warm today, and if you have to be out Christmas shopping or whatever, please drive safely! My day will be spent preparing to host the get-together this evening with my old school friends, which will probably end up getting postponed again---or cancelled altogether---as another snowy winter storm is headed our way today.

Your son is serious about his game! He will learn to back off a little.
Wow, a daughter with a job and a sports loving son, how lucky are you? Good kids!
Stay warm, maybe the next wave of weather won't be so bad.
My son never fouled out but he didn't play that well either.
It is really cold here as well.
Basketball....love it! My son is not into group sports...let's say he'd rather just try and conquer nature on his own!...Rock climbing, kayaking on ocean swells...that type of thing. Grin. I love that your daughter is indpendent and working. YOu sure raised them well Jeannelle.
Everyone seems to be in a 'deepfreeze' of some sorts this winter. That is good,....hopefully it brings family back to hearth and home. Merry Christmas
Great basketball shots....you really captured some great moments in the game! My daughter fouled out again last night...second time in 5 games.
Hi, Gail,
Oh, yeah....he's serious, and complains sometimes about the guys who aren't as serious. I have to remind him that everyone views things in a different way.

Hi, Dr. John,
Thanks for stopping in! Stay warm up there!

Hi, Trish,
The individual sports are important, too....teaching more inner determination, I think. Oh, my daughter's job is just part-time, to help with college expenses, which are HUGE.
Hopefully, everyone's family members with arrive safely at home and hearth! Stay warm, well, and safe!

Hi, Frazzled,
Sounds like your daughter is an intense, aggressive player. Sometimes, its hard for girls to play that way, though to be successful in basketball, you have to. When my older daughter started playing years ago, I was constantly yelling from the stands: "Be more aggressive!" I've gotten over that.....now I barely make a peep.
Nice action shots, Jeannelle! I didn't have any sports-involved children. But, they were singers, and I attended a lot of choir concerts. Only son is now the director of the Diamond State Chorus (a 40+ member men's barbershop group) and a member of a barbershop quarter, so my attending concerts is not over by a long shot.
Hope your gathering can go off as scheduled; maybe unpleasant weather will hold off for a day.
Stay warm and dry!
Hi, Pat,
Oh, that sounds like so much fun....to attend barbershop music concerts! Congrats on your son being so involved in music!
My older three kids were in band and chorus in high school, and it always was a pleasure to attend the concerts and events. Less nerve-wracking than sports!
I'm still chuckling over your "orphaned spinster" idea!! Cute, and it covers everything.
Great pictures of the BB game. I guess everyone fouls once in a while....I am not looking forward to anymore nasty weather, but will have to put up with whatever comes my way!
Have a safe and happy get together.
Hi, Gramma Ann,
Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, that's for sure, we have to just put up with the weather. Stay warm and well!
