Guess what! Around noon today, Betsy was sighted at the dog food dish by our house! Just like that.......we have no idea which direction she returned from. She looked no worse for wear, but seemed very hungry.

Buster will be very happy to have Betsy around again; he had been looking rather lost and lonely the past two days. Those two dogs love to horse around, as shown in this photo from last winter:
What the explanation is for Betsy's three-day absence, we have no idea. Truly, I did not make up the story of her being missing just to have something to blog about. In all of her eight years of life, she has never gone away from the farm, except when she walks with me out on the road. Husband wonders if maybe she spotted a deer Friday afternoon and gave chase, ending up disoriented near someone else's farm, where she may have take shelter in a building during those two very cold, windy days.

We will never know for sure, as Betsy, though being a gifted cattle dog, is certainly not endowed with the gift of speech.
The possibility can't be discounted that the thoughts and prayers of her concerned owners and you blog readers played a part in Betsy's safe return! Thank you!

Oh Jeannelle, so glad she retured and is okay. Our female was sick Sunday and I was really worried about her, but by the time I returned from Church, she was pretty much back to normal. Just some bad road kill or something. She got over cold outside lying in the snow, and was better once she warmed up. So glad Betsy is back! We also have 2 cats that roamed the first summer we had them. I for three weeks, the other for about 1 1/2 weeks. They don't do it any more. I think they found it not so pleasant on their own.
I'm so relieved I'm in tears. I felt so bad about the thought of her trapped somewhere and freezing to death. I'm really happy for you, your husband, and of course, Buddy.
Wonderful news! Thanks for the quick update. I tend to personify pets, so one that goes missing for any length of time whatsoever is like having a child gone! I am so happy she is back home!!!
I am soooo happy she came home none the worse for wear... shes a pretty gal. I know buster is happy!
HUGS laura
Yay!!! I'm SO glad! I read about her disappearance (didn't leave comment - so sorry!) and just KNOW how disconcerting it is when pets go missing. All's well that ends well!
Glad the dog is back. Too bad it can't talk.
Glad to see Betsy is back and no worse for the wear. I am sorry to hear of the death in your family and I hope all is better soon.
I'm so glad to hear Betsy came back home. Where could she have been? My old dog Jake had a farm about 6 miles away where he like to go just to hang around for a few days. Every so often if he'd be missing we'd call there first and sure enough he'd be there visiting. Maybe Betsy has a secret boyfriend, maybe she was chasing rabbits, having a spa day, finishing her Christmas shopping, who knows? I'm sure there's a creative story in there somewhere, she wouldn't want the cows to get all the limelight.
So wonderful to hear that she's home again. That very well could have been what happened, given the bad weather. She holed up, just like she should have, and then came home.
HOORAY!! I'm so glad that Betsy is back...=D Don't you wish she could talk so she could tell you about her adventure. I'm so happy for you and I know Buster will be so happy to have his buddy back....=D
((((HUGS))))
Oh my word! "Thank you Lord for bringing her home"! Give her some extra lovin' ;)
Hooray!
When things like Betsy's disappearance happen, there's nothing to be done, as you said, but be "resigned to the fact" and understand that "there's nothing to be done."
But doesn't it feel good to have been wrong!
Atta girl, Betsy. You're a legend in your own time.
I had feared the worst, but am so glad Betsy came home safe and sound! A regular canine Agatha Christie or Aimee Semple McPherson!
I'm so relieved that your loved one came home. Having lost a pet in a terrible blizzard, I know how badly you can feel. Luckily, in my case, my Ellie came home, too.
She is such a beautiful dog. I am so happy for you that she is back. It's so heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet.
Sherry,
Glad to hear your dog is feeling better!

Ruth,
I probably shouldn't even have mentioned that Betsy had probably frozen to death......not a good thought.

Egghead,
Thank you for the concern. Now I just pray all the people who travelled here for the funeral get home again safely in this winter weather.

Nancy,
Oh, funny! Yes, you're right, one could come up with any number of scenarios for a good story of Betsy's adventures while missing. "A spa day".....that's a good one! Wish she'd have taken me along!
********
Butchy, Snickers, Ruby, Sylvester and Scuby,
You sound like quite a group! Thank you for your concern!

Country Girl,
Yes, probably Betsy was smart enough to just stay put until the weather improved.
**********
Deserthen,
Yes! Or that Betsy had a "black box" that recorded her wanderings!

Deb,
Glad to hear your Ellie returned safe. Animals are smart and often survive while we worry.
