Have Some Snow!

School was called off yesterday due to the ten inches of snow that fell. Looks like chores should have been called off, too! Somebody should inform the cows about that......they need to take the day off when THAT much snow falls! Sheesh.......I have to dig my way to the barn door!
And, looky here.......the door to our lovely calf building is blocked with snow, too.......

Thank goodness for scoop shovels. This one is MINE, and all MINE, by the way! I bought it at a garage sale many years ago for $2.00. And, did I mention that it is MINE. Everyone around here knows that.......it is never to be left in places unknown on the farmstead.

This calf's pen needs shoveled out, obviously. I'm generously putting my precious scoop shovel at the calf's disposal.......he's free to put it to use.

Oh, yeah.......wouldn't you know it.......the calf takes one sniff and decides he's allergic to shovels.......and WORK! Like some teenagers I'm acquainted with.
Hey.......Husband has the snowblower going:

Just like a little kid........I love to watch the plumes of snow go flying!!

After this next photo, there was snow all over the camera and yours truly. She's a bright one, that she is.

" Thanks, Maw, for cleaning out my pen. You're such a good Maw.......I love you MOOch! Oh, yeah.......can you bring me my warm bottle of milk right quick now, too!"
*
And, lastly........I've read your mind, readers........you've been thinking: "Why didn't Jeannelle just make a video of the snowblower, instead of taking all those silly still photos of that exciting snow-flinging action??"
*
Well........here you go......I hope it works:

It works!

Husband would be a very popular person in Chicago. That's SOME snow blower he has there!

What a wonderful big boy toy! Hopefully we will never, ever, ever, get enough snow to use on of those.
The sad truth of farming, work goes on no matter what the weather is. No days off and no overtime!

IF we had a blower like that and IF i coudl be in a semi warm place to watch it work (like heated cab of tractor) and if it was what looks to be a totally beautiful day .... I WOULD SO LOVE the snow and to see it being blown about like that!!!!! AWESOME! and as someone else put... farm work does not stop just because of a LITTLE snow.
Hugs Laura
who had to break down and put the AC back on cause its benn HOT here!

Hello, Jeannelle,

Thanks for your visit and nice comments. We didn't have quite as much snow as you. We only had about 6 inches, I think. If you are in the Waterloo area, I am a little south of you, seven miles from Interstate 80.

We retired from farming 10 years and 7 months ago. We had a farm for 40 years in Maryland. We sold it and moved to Iowa. Why Iowa? We have a Son and Daughter-in-law,and three Granddaughters who live in Middle Amana. We came for a visit, liked the area, went home and sold everything and moved. I haven't missed the farm life in the least. Of course my 3 children and their families who still live in Maryland would prefer I still lived in Maryland, but, they have adjusted, and we visit about once a year, and have a lot of fun.

Will close, I'm beginning to ramble! ;)

Sempringham,

Oh, my.....what a nightmare it must be to clear a heavy snow from streets in a big city.

Hi, Gail,

Are you sure you don't want some of this snow? For a Christmas decoration, perhaps!

*********

Hi, Laura,

What.....A/C?!! You're kidding, right! I wish we could pipe you some of the cold "air conditioning" around here!!

**********

Hi, Deb,

Oh, it isn't that bad, and it is fun to see a batch of newly-fallen snow, before its all tracked up and dirty.

Hi, Gramma Ann,

Thank you for visiting and introducing yourself! I don't mind "ramblings". Its always nice to meet another Iowa blogger. I'm northeast of Waterloo, so, yes, you are aways south if you near I-80.

Wow.....interesting how you ended up in Iowa after all those years farming in Maryland. Surely it was an adventure to make such a big move.

Weee-hoo! I'm counting my blessings. Just thankful I don't have to shovel out calf pens, etc.

That snow blower is quite the piece of machinery. I guess it's a must-have for the farm.

Stay warm. Enjoy your Sally Anns and Cashew Brittle.

We hire people to come clear our drive. Michael has two herniated spinal disks; I have asthma. So we just pay people to do it.

Hi, Pat,

I hope your weather hasn't turned too bad down south. The national weather map did not look very good today.

Hi, Ruth,

Oh, a bad back sounds like no fun....my mom had surgery for a herniated disk years ago. And, asthsma.....sounds like no fun, either, and can be scary.

Shoveling snow can provide work for those who need it and that's good. Just this morning I visited with a guy who takes his tractor into the Amish community after a snow and makes hundreds of dollars moving snow out of Amish farmyards!

Take care.....you maybe have a blizzard, too, tonight.

Love the snow blower video!! Don't you just wish the critters would take care of their own shoveling....He, he. Our chickens refuse to even touch the snow shovel and now they are demanding booties and hats...=)

Hi, Deserthen,

Loved your cute comment! And it really made me chuckle because right before I read it I had left a comment on another blog....about an old German saying: "Sick as a chicken, can eat but cannot work." My father-in-law used to say that about people he felt were being a bit lazy! He'd say it in German, though, and for years I did not know what it meant.
