Choppin O’ The Hay

4th 002

Hey, we chopped hay today….

Conveying it to the silo to stay….

4th 005 Our son drives wagons back and forth from the field where Husband is driving the tractor pulling the chopper.  The chopped hay is unloaded into a hopper which augers it into the blower which forces the hay up a tube into the top of the silo.  Its a VERY noisy process.

4th 011

I spent the afternoon digging in the dirt, planting and weeding, hoping the sunshine would improve my outlook on life…..and, I believe it did.

The next couple days will involve taking my daughter to Minneapolis to catch her flight to Germany.  The packing is all done; her older sister kindly came home yesterday to offer experienced assistance with that.

My stomach remains somewhat tied up in knots, though sleeping was improved last night, thankfully.  Being able to sleep helps immensely, and I know I’ll feel better once I hear my daughter has arrived safely at her destination.  The bad thing is she may not be able to contact us for a few days.

I’ve been a poor excuse for a blogger lately.  I’ve not kept up with blogger friends’ posts during the last week and I’m sorry about that.  It has somehow been impossible to sit down at the computer for any length of time…..restlessness has had the upper hand.  DON’T ALLOW YOURSELF TO GET LIKE THAT!

I hope to catch some photos on the trip north.  It will be good to get away for a short time……I wish it could be longer.  Take care and God bless!!

Choppin' the hay...a reminder of how we used to do it around here. The upright silos have all but disappeared from the landscape...and we now pack all our silage into bunker silos. We baled hay this week...since it has been sizzlin' hot over here (35C). Oh...the joys of farming!

It was a relief to see your post. Have a safe trip to Minneapolis and back. Enjoy yourself.

P.S. She's gonna be fine.

Blessings to the traveler and the mom. Enjoyed the info on hay chopping and silo loading. We just bailed and stacked because of dryer weather.

Oh Jeannelle, I haven't been a very good blogging friend lately either. I think sometimes we need to take a break and enjoy something different.

Have a fun trip with the daughters and yes it is always nice when we hear from the kids when they travel. My daughter always sends me pictures while they vacation, it is almost like being with them on the vacation, except I get to enjoy it in my Lazyboy Recliner. She has one of those crazy iPhones, and we e-mail and chat back and forth about what they are doing.

And the hay making work, was there and did that many years ago now. I could smell the chopped up hay as I read and looked at your pictures. lol...

Making hay while the sun shines...and also digging in the dirt and weeding and planting! Never a dull moment when you live on a farm....

Safe to trip to you and to your daughter. Where in Germany is she going? It must be really hard to see her go.
Don't worry about being absent, we'll wait for you.

I hope everyone has a safe trip.

I have not been a good blogger lately either. Put my mind somewhere else and it makes it hard to write freely.

I was inspired today and wrote. It felt good. Perhaps I have gotten over whatever hump it was?

Take care...and I hope it all comes back to you soon.

Farm Wife,

I have rejoined civilization. I am in "The Cities" as I type. Wave if you see La Coachasita headed south west.

Not to worry, the girl will be just fine!

The hay lesson was worth the trip out of the hail storm last night!

With your fairly recent change of background color on your blog, I automatically read the title of this post as Choppin' O' the Hay midst the Wearin' O' the Green.

I thought you would want to know.

I'm so glad to see you were able to get your hay chopped. Our hay still sits on the ground...wet and molding at this point! It has done nothing but rain for over a week! Very sad and upsetting! It rained all day yesterday...again! The weather is making everyone grumpy and uptight! I have been restless this week and not up for much blogging or blog reading. I have a lot of catching up to do. Enjoy your little trip and safe journey to your daughter!
