Corncrib For Sale

16th064

This gigantic corncrib sits along Highway 18 east of West Union, Iowa. Not for much longer, though, perhaps. White painted lettering announces that this old wooden structure is “4-Sale”…….for $2650…….with the stipulation, “to be removed”. If you are interested, I could probably get the phone number for you. The old weathered wood might make nifty rustic furniture and craft projects. Otherwise, what would a person do with it?

Boy, if I were only younger, richer, and more energetic, I would love that building. It has all sorts of possibilities. From a wood storage shed, to a hen house, to America's very first genuine drive thru (literally) corn on the cob fast order joint. And it's tall enough that it could nicely accomodate a loft hide away (or, more appropriately for me at least... dog house). Somebody's gotta buy it. I sure hope it doesn't go up in smoke.

The building is a real gem. Too bad it has to go. BTW How many post do you have to publish before you reach your BIG DAY goal?

Hi, Old Gray Egg,

I hope, too, that someone will buy the corncrib and make use of it in some way. It would be alot of work to disassemble and rebuild somewhere.....or could it be moved in one piece....I don't know much about moving buildings. I love your idea of a "drive-thru" corn on the cob eatery!! Clever!

I have several posts ready to publish every few hours and need to figure out about 10 more. Its foolish, but fun.

Great picture of the barn. My friend actually lives in a restored one - it's beautiful inside.

What a gorgeous old building. Hope someone can move it, intact, to a new location and find a creative use for it.

Hi, aspen,

Thank you for stopping by and commenting! I hope too that the old landmark building will live on in some form.

Hi, Barb,

Wow....that is interesting. I admire anyone who can envision making a home out of an old farm structure. Quite a challenge that would be.

Hi, Pat,

I agree entirely!
