The only halfway decent-looking blossom in my perennial garden right now is Yellow Columbine. Don’t ask me why I chose to plant a mountain native here in my Iowa yard…..evidently I was overcome by temptation at a nursery one day a few years ago. This Columbine is cheerful and bright, though, and seems to be spreading little by little. The fuzzy stuff attached to everything must have blown in from Cottonwood trees several miles away, we think, for there are none right in our local area.

Other than that info, I wanted to mention that my daughter did call from Germany yesterday morning! I had skipped church because I was so tired, and she called during that time. She was fighting jet lag and sounded exhausted, but seemed in pretty good spirits. She said the long flight from Minneapolis to Amsterdam went just fine. Her seatmate was a woman who kept having panic attacks about the flight, however. Haha…..that’s probably how I would be……I’ve never flown and don’t especially want to.
My daughter flew on from Amsterdam to Frankfurt. She said her seatmate on that flight was a young man engrossed in reading a mathematical paper.
Daughter is a bit disappointed about one thing……she had set up a blog to journal on from Europe, but it appears there is no internet access where she is staying and the students aren’t allowed to use the internet at the school where they will be working. Perhaps she’ll find internet access when she eventually gets the chance to do some traveling.

Yikes…..a thunderstorm has moved into our area here on Sunday evening as I type this. Lots of lightning and thunder, so I’d better close this post and unplug my computer. Have a great Monday!

That's happy news, Miss J. What a long flight for your daughter and the anxious woman!
We have a Cottonwood tree living right next door. It spends about two weeks each summer messing up our pool filter and a few other things. The neighbors would like to take it down, but it's enormous and would cost about $1,000. So it stays and we are covered in white.
I'm not sure if they're still around, but a few years ago there were "internet cafes" all over the place in Europe. You could get online to check your mail and send notes for about $2 for 20 minutes.
I think she'll be able to find a way to do her blog once she knows the terrain better.
Good news that she got there safe and sound. But most people do, you know. :-)
So glad to hear that the daughter made it safe and sound to Germany. I can understand why the lady would be a bit frightened about flying, after the sad Air France tragedy last week. It was a very sad situation, and pray that the families will be able to cope with their lose of loved ones.
The flower is lovely, and we see white things flowing around town also, but have no idea where the trees would be.
Those nasty thunder and lightning storms missed us, we could hear thunder in the distance, but they stayed south and north of us. I'm sure all the rain north of us will affect the Iowa River. They ran across the TV screen last night that Marshalltown got 2 1/2 inches of rain in 15 minutes. What a downpour.

Your columbine is beautiful... I had some when I lived in Ohio. They are such detailed and pretty flowers. I doubt they would do well here in KS.

Your columbine is a beauty. I have them in my garden as well. In fact they thrive here. I had to dig some up and bury them in the canal bank because they were crowding out everything else. Glad Daughter is on the ground. I'm jealous of your trip to the MALL.

Oh, dear.....so the Columbine might become a nuisance eventually. And, yeah, the big mall is great fun to meander around in.
I'm glad your daughter arrived in Germany okay. Hopefully she will be able to find an internet cafe or something to communicate. It was fun to see your pictures of the Twin Cities. We were in Eagan for a ballgame last week and St. Paul also to return oldest son to his summer home. I don't think we passed you on the road though. I like that pretty yellow columbine too. I had some blue when I lived in Iowa and here I have the wild red kind. I doubt you have to worry about it spreading too much, too cold here.
Gee and I thought I was the only non-flyer left in the world! I too have never flown and don't really care too either. I would be that woman in the seat next to your daughter having those panic attacks! They would probably have to make an emergency landing to let me off the plane!
The flowers are pretty and the fuzzy stuff does look like cottonwood fuzz...we have it all over here right now!
Your Columbine is beautiful. The Hummingbirds will like it. My sister lives on a farm in Springville, Iowa (I'm in S.C.) and she grows Columbine in her garden.
