I had planned to say that this will be the last time I'll blog about Sarah Palin, but there may come a time when a higher calling will compel me to offer opinions about her again so I'll leave that option open. Oh, my......just thinking about Sarah Palin causes fangs to grow in my mouth and horns to sprout on my head……all due to jealousy, of course. Definitely, that's an unhealthy situation for me, and seeing as medical procedures are too expensive to indulge in---defangings and dehornings being very costly---it behooves me to avoid pondering much over stressful issues that transform me into a snarling monstrosity.
*
However…..here we go. The above two photos of Sarah Palin were taken---recently, I think---by photographer Brian Adams for the magazine Runner’s World. Click for the slideshow and interview on the Runner’s World website. Let me admit right off the bat that Sarah Palin looks fantastic......and, considering that she's 45 years old and has given birth to five children, her body condition is phenomenal. I've been through four pregnancies and my body attests to that fact MUCH more obviously than Sarah's body attests to five. (Sad to say, I put very little effort into post-partum fitness regimes and am now paying the price.)
Ok…..call me nosy and stupid, but I have a question or two concerning the above two photos. What must the conversation have been like during this photo shoot? I’m assuming the first scene was taken before the second one, though I could be wrong, of course. Did the photographer peer at the first photo and then say, “Ok, Governor…..would you mind bending over a little bit more for the next shot. Yeah…..there you go…..good idea…..reach for your lower leg. Turn a bit. Perfect. Hold it right there.” Click.....FLASH! And, then.....whoops......SPLASH......into the lake she toppled!
I just don't get it. What persuades a supposedly strict and seriously Christian* woman to unzip her shirt just so and then lean way over for a photograph? (Sure, sure.....its just a runner's stretch. Wink, wink.) Granted, Governor Palin's pose is quite tame, considering our relatively loose modern-day modesty standards, but what was the intent and purpose of that photo in the first place? Was it simply to demonstrate stretching techniques? Or, to provide pin-up posters for her fans? (*Sorry, my own strict, seriously Christian upbringing continues to exert its often prudish influence on my opinions. I fight it as best I can, but am not always successful.)
*
You surely know this already, but, lo and behold.....a few days ago Sarah Palin announced that she is stepping down from her post as governor of Alaska, before her first term is even up. Some say she is leaving politics for good. Others say she has her sights set on a leadership role in the national Republican Party and a possible run for the presidency in 2012. No one seems to know for sure. (Though, reportedly, there is a book deal in the works.)
Its very obvious to me and my pesky conservative Christian upbringing that Sarah Palin's current "high" calling is, or should be, motherhood. Sarah could moonlight as a spandex fitness clothing model in her spare time. That's my personal opinion, of course, formed partly from my jealousy of her.....jealousy over the fact that I don't possess a model's face or physique AND I stayed home and raised my children BEFORE continuing to stay home and embark upon my blogging "career". In addition, there is my disappointment over having never been approached to be photographed for the centerfold of Trudger's World magazine. Boo-hoo-hoo. I am a victim of the unfairness of life. But then again......I must remember that being humorless and whiny and casting myself as a victim will get me nowhere, so somehow I must learn to get over myself, and possibly even laugh at my own foibles.

(Actually, while finalizing this post, it dawned on me that Sarah Palin might just be the perfect poster person for those of us who can't afford regular visits to the doctor. Being slim and toned surely helps insure good health, and if your health insurance premiums and deductibles are sky high and you can't afford doctor visits, maintaining good health by staying trim and in shape would be just the ticket. In fact, I recently read a newspaper article which stated that a Congressional committee discussing the health care crisis had determined that obesity and diabetes are the main causes of skyrocketing health care expenses and insurance premiums. Apparently there's little consideration given to the possibility that insurance companies or doctors or hospitals might be somewhat to blame for high medical costs, too. That aside.....just think, if the healthcare focus becomes disease prevention, the government might intervene in peoples' lives by requiring them to live healthier lifestyles, lose weight, and eat healthy. More of that darn government intervention coming our way!)
*
Hmm.....on second thought......big, glossy posters of spandex-clad Sarah-the-Fit might just prompt a health-kick trend across the nation. Perhaps THAT would be a fitting "higher calling" for Sarah Palin. Certainly, I don't wish the woman any ill, but neither can I bring myself to wish her success in the national political arena, which is where Sarah's July 4th Facebook entry seems to imply she might be headed. (Just so you know.....last year during the vp candidates' debate on TV, I thought it rather bizarre the way Governor Palin stared unwaveringly right into the camera while giving her answers, instead of looking at the moderator like the other candidate did. I quickly decided not to look into her eyes. I know, I know.....that's just me being goofy and hyper-critical, but her stare bothered me. I didn't want to get accidentally hypnotized or subliminally influenced by her eyes.)
*
Ok, I'm rambling now, so I'd better quit.....plus, the fangs and horns are starting to erupt. I will henceforth attempt to return this blog to farm and family fare, with a few wildflowers and skies and cows thrown in for good measure……and, NO politics in sight for a long time, hopefully, although I've been trying to get a slight grasp of the Climate Change Bill that passed in the U.S. House recently and has been sent on to the Senate. Eventually, I'll attempt to post about it.....betcha can't wait for that.
*
P.S. - One last thing: If you wish to donate to Sarah Palin's legal expense fund, go here. IF milk prices were higher and our health insurance premiums lower......I might then consider donating to the cause, too, of course. Cough, cough.

Do you know, I was a bit nervous about this post because I kind of like Sarah, despite having succumbed to sagging after only three kids. However, I got a good laugh instead....you do have a way with words. Thanks for my morning chuckle.
You're preaching to choir on when it comes to SP! This was a great post about a woman who thinks just a wee bit too highly of herself; methinks Potomoc fever?
She needs to wear some big girl panties under that Spandex and start looking at those larger issues you mentioned (food prices, insurance co. greed, etc.)
Happy Monday and keep smiling (and writing!)
Jeannelle ~ Another enjoyable post. Like one of the others said, "You do have a way with words." Very funny and a fun way to start my day.
I don't think you need be jealous of SP, what is there to be jealous of? So she works outs with a trainer, you work out also, each day you work out in the barn and the fields....now that is what I call working out!
Have a great day working out....
1. She does look great. Bravo to her.
2. To quit right in the middle of a term will greatly lessen any potential to run for the presidency.
3. I wish I could run.
Not for the presidency. Just run. That's a novel idea . . .
I first thought, "Oh, no, not a post about Sarah Palin's latest adventures" but then I got quite a few chuckles out of what you had to say. Hilarious!
This post is worthy of a larger audience...have you thought about submitting it to Reader's Digest?
A wonderful post!
Thanks for pointing out the erotic nature of the photos, which had eluded me. (Actually, I doubt that the photographer had to ask her to unzip her top.)
I was mesmerized by the way her head seems so disjointed from her body – as though it had been cut out of a magazine and pasted on to the picture. You could swap heads in the pictures. The more I look at it, the weirder it gets. This is a woman who has practiced smiling in front of her mirror.
Her "I'm quitting because I'm not a quitter" speech was a classic. We haven't heard the last of her, though. She's going to make a lot of money.
And now I can say, I've been to SP's facebook page ... never ever thought I'd say that ...
I seriously don't get her ... why not finished her term while running for whatever she has planned ...
And, yes, she does look ok for having five kids ... I h@te those ladies ... I had two and well ... we won't get into that ...
Now, more stories about being on a farm and all ... LOL
Hi, threecollie,
Thank you for being a good sport about this post!
I hope some warmer, dryer weather is headed your way. It is heating up here in Iowa again and if I could I'd send the warmth your way!
********
Hi, noni,
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I read somewhere that SP's mindset appears to be: "I'm a celebrity....get me out of here!" Who knows for sure, but it does appear that way. Just what we need in a leader.
*******
Hi, Gramma Ann,
Thank you for the comforting comment. Don't worry....I'm not jealous of SP. "Pretty is as pretty does" was drilled into my head by my mother.
*******
Hi, Country Girl,
Thanks for stopping by! I wish you could run, too! I only run when chasing cows occasionally....otherwise its walking for me.
*******
Hi, rhymsie,
I must admit to being a bit worried about what you would think of this post. I'm relieved you got a few chuckles. Thanks, though I doubt its RD-worthy.

Hi, Sempringham,
I was pushing it, the photo is hardly erotic....as stated in the post, it is quite tame, but seemed enough to build a blogpost around.
Yeah, obviously....she's well-practiced at looking good. She wasn't a beauty pageant finalist for nothing, you know!
I'm quite sure you're correct in saying we haven't heard the last of her. She takes pains to always mention her supposed affinity with ordinary Americans, but what she really wants is to be their queen.
Hi, JC,
Yes, doesn't that seem bizarre to visit her FB page! I thought so, too.
Oh, I think I "get" her....as I said in another comment....she wants to be queen. Queens can do pretty much anything they want and nobody is supposed to criticize them....because they are the queen, of course. You betcha!
But, yes....you're right, I need to get back to my home turf....the farm!!
Oh geez, oh geez...what do I say? LOL. I just briefly mentioned SP in my post yesterday. I said something like, "More power to her." I am not extremely happy about her running for any office, especially a presidential one, because I am not convinced of her leadership ability, especially military. As far as her photo shoot...is that stretching? LOL...I do not see it either. I see something else.
Fangs and horns...withdrawing.
Yours are gone now too?
Sorry about the signature line!!! I was testing something on the blog. Owner Mary Humphrey...oops!!!
I like her. Best of luck to her in all she does. Quite interesting to see people (women especially) rip her up. I offer "Christian" friendship to her.
Now let's move on the more important things like growing the perfect tomato.
Hi, Mary,
I love your signature! Its sounds very official. And, you sound too nice to ever grow fangs and horns!

Hi, Maybelline,
Thank you for opinion! If I came upon Sarah Palin in need....like with a flat tire or such, I would gladly help her. However, I have no desire to see her as a national leader, partly because she can't handle criticism and paints herself as a victim. We don't need leaders like that....in my opinion.
Last fall I blogged my concerns about her religious leanings....after I heard a radio pastor rave on about how God had raised up a Deborah (Sarah Palin) to lead us into the Last Days. No thank you. I grew up with that mindset and won't go back to it.
And, by the way.....I've never been able to grow very good tomatoes.
What a hoot, loved your post. Sarah's an odd one, that's for sure. There's no figuring her out.
My first thought at her posed, leaning-over photos was "if she's in such great shape, why aren't we seeing any of her glorious flat stomach?" Hmm?
I'm jealous of her perfect body after five kids, but that's it. A tad paranoid is she? A tad too self-involved? Too much on her plate with five children needing her attention?
Thanks for writing this. Most fun to read.
i am glad to see others (men and women) feel the same way i do about palin. we can only hope that she is not only leaving the governor's seat, but government all together, but i don't think we are that lucky. of course we are just jealous of her and very unchristian to boot. we have no reason not to just love her all up, right? i'm sure the alaskan people are saying good bye and good riddance.
love all your posts..hay, local sights, cows and palin
You gave me just the laugh I needed on Monday...after a day at work...for the public!
I didn't even notice the cleavage shot - had to scroll back up and look for it. But oh my! It's there.
Thanks, Jeannelle, for an entertaining posting. I suspect that there is much more to this story that meets the eye. It will be interesting to see it unravel (and perhaps her career with it).
Hi, Oz Girl,
Hey, maybe you're right....maybe she's bending over to hide something! Maybe we'll soon know the truth.
******
Hi, Midlife JobHunter,
Yes, I feel she expects to be able to have her cake and eat it, too. Be coddled some, too. Dare I say, she might be a bit spoiled.
********
Hi, marianne,
Thanks for stopping in with your thoughtful words. I second everything you said.
*********
Hi, Gail,
Now don't you go postal on us! Kidding.....hope you get some good rest tonight. Thanks for the comment.
*********
Hi, Flea,
Oh, its not hardly even cleavage. I feel almost guilty blogging about it.....almost.....
********
Hi, Evansmom,
Yes, it will be interesting. In some ways it appears she's envisioning herself in a higher government role, and then again maybe not. Thanks for stopping by.
