I find myself continually fascinated by Goldenrod with their multitude of miniature blossoms…..
After consulting the wildflower book and finding many types of Goldenrod therein, I concluded that the above photo shows a Tall Goldenrod and the one below, a Bog Goldenrod.

Granny used to tell us to use dried Golden Rod Blooms in a mix for hair ligtener...we never tried it.
We have many types of Goldenrod here too -- wondering where you are located... I'm in eastern Nebraska. A gorgeous plant, no matter what type it is! :)
Thanks for your comment, Nancy. I'm in northeast Iowa. There are 29 types of Goldenrod shown in the Peterson Field Guide that I use. There are three or four different types growing along the roadside near our farm.
What a beautiful, deep golden fall color they are!
