What a great capture!
Re your comment at «Louis'» Toussaints post, "For All The Saints" is one of «Louis'» favorite hymns, too.
What is interesting about Ralph Vaughan Williams' church music is that he wasn't particularly religious, but had such a profound impact on sacred music. His "Mass in G-minor" has got to be one of the world's all-time best choral works. It was composed to be sung a cappella (though he also scored a version for organ accompaniment - principally as continuo - and a version for accompaniment by a small instrumental group ). The vocal music of this Mass is so rich, the listener often thinks it is orchestral.
In the section of the Mass where Christ is crucified and buried, the pain of the crucifixion is audible and the music drops to near silence with Christ's burial - then it soars to life again with et resurrexit tertia die. It is incredibly powerful and beautiful music.
Just like some women I know around here!
The Nicene Creed in Vaughan Williams' Mass in G-minor. Not the ideal recording, but it will give you an idea of the power and beauty of this music. At 6:40, begin paying particular attention; the crucifixion is at 7:42, resurrection at 7:55.
The sublime agnus dei is here. (They should have stopped the video at 4:16.)
Lovely shot! What a pretty painted lady!
Thank you all for the comments. Thank you, Louis, for the links.
I think all our butterflies are long gone...though I did see a moth here in the house the other day.
That is a butterfly I haven't seen yet. She is a beauty (I think she realizes that and just wanted a photo of herself taken!)
