Capitol Building

A recent trip to Des Moines offered opportunity for a drive-by shooting of the state Capitol.

Nov 23I’ve toured the golden-domed building on several occasions, the first being a class trip in sixth grade.  We trooped up into the rotunda and cupola that time, amazed at the dizzying view.  In subsequent years, I accompanied my own children’s sixth grade classes as they toured there, also.

Neat! We often took our boys to the state capitol in St. Paul. Also a golden dome. Inside a ton of paintings from the Civil War era. :)

oh I have a funny story about that capital building. It was a annual event for my family to pile into the auto every July and head out west on a road trip. the first year I can remember, we drove through Des Moines. I was very young, and I mis-pronounced the name and said "Dez Moans". well everyone got a good laugh out of it alright.
I remember touring it and it was lovely. since that time I've held a reverence for domed buildings. this one is beautiful and unique in its style. I love it.

dang it all. I misspelled capitol. I hate when I do that. I've done it all my life...
