Rye Field

It looks like tall grass, but its a field of rye almost ready to be cut and chopped for silage(food for cows).

Here’s Mrs. Red-Winged Blackbird---most likely standing guard over her nest.

Apr 27 (2) She looks nothing like her male counterpart and I wonder if she gets tired of having a name that doesn’t describe her at all.

The cows here have already been enjoying the rye we planted, so I won't even have to cut it. She certainly doesn't look like her name at all.

Beautiful! I need to ask my parents what part of Iowa my dad's uncles farmed. I remember singing to their cows. I loved visiting the farm, and that of their parents'. Their dad, my dad's great uncle had big flower beds.
