Question Mark Butterfly

Yesterday morning I waded into this patch of milkweed in the road ditch and happened to see an unfamiliar orange butterfly:

June 11 (4) I snapped photos like mad, hoping to get a few usable ones.

June 11 (7) This butterfly is called a Question Mark because it has one on the underside of its wings.  You can see the question mark in this next photo:

Beautiful capture.

I have seen them but never knew what they were called. Thank you.

You sure got some good shots of this one. The question mark is clearly visible.

wow!!! these are excellent captures. butterflies love milkweed flowers for all their good sweetness. I like the term "wading" into the ditch. It's amazing that you caught the question mark on the underside of the wing. I've attempted to photograph butterflies but I'm not quick enough. my fave is the Monarch in flight. happy week to you Jeannelle. and happy dairy month too.

Great shots! I have to say, I really like the blooper shot for the motion it shows.
