Happy Independence Day to you!
I don’t have a flag photo on hand so I borrowed this one from the internet:
In church last Sunday I was reading the fine print below a hymn we were about to sing. Much to my surprise, I saw the name of Francis Scott Key. The hymn was not The Star-Spangled Banner so right then and there I learned that he also penned the words to at least one hymn. It’s title is Before The Lord We Bow. Click here to listen to it and read the verses. (And, no, I did not have a camera with me in church. I have a collection of hymnals at home.)
My World Book Encyclopedia says that Francis Scott Key was a lawyer and amateur verse writer. It goes on to say that he never took his poetry seriously. A book of his poems was published many years after his death. Do you suppose he’d be surprised to find out that one of them became our national anthem!

I didn't know that either! Have a good 4th!
A decade or so ago a radio broadcaster told the story of the star spangled banner. If you understand the back story, then the first verse and three others make sense. Many sites have the back story but none of them included the information that you did in this post. Thanks.
Beautiful images! I hope you had a wonderful day!
