Tile is put into the ground for drainage purposes. I remember watching a tiling machine lay clay tile on our farm when I was a kid. What a noise it made! We still have a few clay tiles sitting on a junk pile…

Tiling has changed the landscape and the way water is channeled. Its an interesting discussion of production vs wetlands vs economics. Nice post. Thanks.

Pat, I don't know what percentage of farm fields are tiled. Tiling has been done for many years, so I assume alot of fields have it.
