Second Christmas

Happy Second Christmas!  It really is a thing (and I have blogged about it in the past).  I think it might be a German tradition to celebrate Christmas also on December 26th.  My husband's family is German and it was his grandmother who always hosted the Second Christmas gathering.  A wonderful array of food was made by Grandma and brought in by the rest of us and we all received gifts from her that day, also.  She was quite a Grandma.  She's been gone many years now and our family's Second Christmas tradition has fallen away.

Enjoy your day!
Hopefully it will be restful.

We had Second Christmas today (without having the first one) and we were the grandparents. What I’m trying to say is we saw neither son’s family yesterday (because one son’s family is extremely reluctant to interact with anyone during this pandemic and the other son’s 23-year-old son tested positive on Dec. 21st so their whole household is self-quarantining for 19 — we were originally going to have Christmas breakfast and exchange gifts with them) but our daughter ‘s family made the 3-hour drive over from Alabama this morning and we spent several wonderful hours with them before they had go back. So it has been quite a different Christmas hereabouts and a somewhat mixed blessing.

Correction - “19” should have been “10 days””

Sorry about your grandson testing positive. Praying his course will be asymptomatic or very mild. That's wonderful you were able to spend time with your daughter and family. Our kids and grandkids were all here today---a house full! They just left. I forgot to mention Second Christmas to them.

I have never heard of Second Christmas before, it sounds fascinating. I love the way different families (and cultures) have different traditions.

What a lovely tradition. That Grandma sounds like someone that would be fun to know.
