Maybe you guessed it.........we will be chopping and bagging oats and peas on the Fourth of July!! I'm not sure what to call the resulting feed-----oatlage, pealage, oatpealage, peaoatlage........ah, whatever. Your holiday plans can't possibly be more fun than ours.......just go ahead and try.......that's fine with me!!
If you're curious to see the machinery used for chopping and bagging, click here to view photos of when we chopped and bagged rye a few weeks ago. It will be the same process today for the oats/peas.

Oh, and here's a random scene from the edge of the oat/pea field........its that wispy grass whose name to me is unknown, but I just love the look of it!!

Good grief!! I was trying to find a web-ding icon that showed a firework.......I thought there was one. Oh, well........Have a super fun and safe Independence Day/Fourth of July, everyone!!!

And while I'm at it.........that goes for everyone else who does a blog (unless it promotes harm or unkindness, of course). If you are reading this and are a blogger, then keep up the good fun. Blogging is fun, and I'm guessing anyone who has a blog might agree with that. And, anyone who reads blogs and is not a blogger......that's OK, too!

Happy Independence Day, Jeannelle. You really know how to spend a holiday. LOL
Maybe this will help make the day special. I've given you a blog award. You can read about it at my place. If you have any trouble snagging the image, email me and I'll send it to you.
Jeannelle, thanks for the link to my July 2nd post.
I'm with Ruth; I think you may have started a new trend with chopping and bagging oats and peas on the Fourth of July! :) :) :) :)
Those were supposed to be smiley faces....
Love your "under-mailbox" collage, Jeannelle!
I don't want to go all Pollyanna-ish on you, but after the stormy, too-much-rain spring you had there, it's a blessing that you have any future cow-fodder to cut. I guess you could consider the task of mowing and gathering a celebration of independence from having to buy cow food.
Happy Independence Day!
You really know how to celebrate those special occasions...chopping grass on your 50th birthday...and making hay for the fourth of July!
Here's my suggestion...if there's no time to party on July 4th, just join us Canadians a few days earlier on July 1st!
Ruth,
Why, thank you very much! And, I will go check out the award after lunch. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

rhymeswithplague,
Your post was just very interesting.....so often there's much more to historical events than meets the eye.
Enjoy your holiday weekend, too!

Pat,
Wow, you really know how to knock the wind out of a complainer's sails!! Wink! Wink! And, you are so right. We are grateful to be having lovely weather today to harvest this needed cow feed.
Enjoy the holiday!

Judy,
I saw your post the other day with all the Canadian maple leaf flags and decorations. Really colorful! I had forgotten that July 1 is Canada Day.....it is printed on some of the calendars I have hanging around.
You enjoy this weekend, too!!
I think your fireworks are just fine. Hope your weather is as perfect as ours is today. I always think that being outside on a day like this is a gift - spoken like the indoors person I have always been!
Hi, caution!
The weather's been very beautiful today here, too, and the chopping and bagging went without a hitch (although alot of hitching and unhitching was involved)!
The afternoon brought some unexpected "fun". I ended up running my son to Urgent Care for throat and ear pain.....he usually never complains about anything. He has a bad tonsil infection (none of our kids had tonsils removed....so now we pay for that, I guess.....when little kids they never had problems with tonsils, although the doctors always said their tonsils were very big.....why did God make tonsils, I ask).
Enjoy the weekend. Hopefully, there's a great firework display somewhere in your vicinity!
Hi there, I just read about your blog on my friend Ruth's blog. I just had to stop by and see this award winning blog of yours! I have a special affinity with Iowa and farms and I love cows! I'm in the Illinois Quad Cities and plan to visit your blog often. So far, I love it!
Hope you had a great 4th! It sure was a beautiful day!
Well...I am extremely happy that I came over this way via Ruth's blog. You are such a breath of fresh air you are! Happy 4th of July. I have bookmarked you for future reading...to be sure.
ginni dee & trish,
Thank you for stopping in from Ruth's lovely blog, and for your very kind words!
Did you have fun with your oats and peas? I, too, stopped by after reading Ruth's glowing description of your blog. Very informational and interesting. Congrats on your award!
