Mystery Flower....Help!!

After much paw-twisting, Betsy agreed to be a field specimen backdrop for this photo:

I can't find this plant in my wildflower books, and am beseeching you readers for some help! Its the only one I've ever seen; it is growing along the driveway to our "crick". I figured I'd better get a photo of it before the cattle chomp it off.

Please, someone enlighten me as to the name of this plant! Thanks!

Of course I have no idea what anything in nature is called! But I do want to tell you that your blog just keeps getting better and better. How did I find your blog in the first place? That's one I can't figure out, but I'm so glad I did!

Try looking up heal-all. That's the closest I can find in my wildflowers book.

Hi, Ruth!

By golly.....I think you're right.....thank you!! Heal-all/Selfheal is in the Peterson Field Guide, and the sketch is very similar. Thanks again.....I just could not figure it out.

Hi, Laura!

Thanks for stopping in, and for the good wishes!

Sherry,

Ruth solved the mystery.....it is a Heal-all, also called Self-heal in my Peterson Field Guide. Its flowers are light purple, crowded into a squarish or oblong head...which this plant has. I had never seen anything like it before.

That was a weird flower, I'm glad Ruth could help you find what it was. I tried to comment about how much I liked your pictures of the church yesterday, but it disappeared into cyberspace. Maybe I forgot to copy the crooked letters. Anyway, I had never heard of that church and wonder if you'd mind telling me where it is located?

Hi, Nancy!

I going to email you the directions to the church.

Nancy, again....

Thanks for mentioning the squiggly letter thing......I went to the Settings and got rid of it, to see how that goes. Thanks....they are kind of a pain.
