These pictures aren't anything to write home about, but they're my first catch of the elusive heron which frequents our "crick" area. (Be sure to click the photos to see them full-screen.)

Nice! You just need a zoom lens, that's all.
Good good good......
its good to know about it? where did you get that information?
wow, very special, i like it.
Hi, oregontribal1!
Thanks for stopping in to visit here! That's neat.....you're familiar with cows and dairies! And, herons! I just wish I could get closer to this one!

Hi, country girl!
Yes, maybe someday I'll get one of those. The dogs were running ahead of me this morning and I knew they'd scare up the heron too quickly.
keep that bird up there... they will destroy a pond of fish in a hurry...they are pretty but not welcome here :)
Great pictures~

Hi, Laura!
Yeah, I suppose they do eat fish.....and can the heron catch the minnows that are in our "crick", I wonder. Probably. Thanks for stopping in!
We have an 'elusive' heron here too that frequents our creek. It may live there, I'm not sure. My Cowboy calls them "sh**-a-quarts"...he's been splattered several times by it flying over him a horseback!
Very cool......I love trying to be sneaky and getting shots of timid or elusive birds. I just have a Kodak camera, but it has a pretty good zoom on it. Never know what you might end up with if you just shoot away...........
We have a creek down the road, and it's definately a treat when they fly overhead-
so prehistoric and majestic
w.o.w.,
Oh, that's funny.....your husband's nickname for these birds!

deserthen,
This photo was taken with my little Canon PowerShot, which has a zoom on it.

anne marie,
You're right....."prehistoric" is the look the heron has. I hadn't thought of that before!
I love herons. We have a few blue herons around here and I have never been able to catch them at a time I have my camera. One day when the farmer was home one landed right at our pool side and he watched it take off in flight not ten feet from where he was standing. No thought to get the camera though. I was at work so I missed it.
