Shots of Izzy

Izzy Lily 1

If you’ve ever wished to see a dog’s nose in up-close proximity to a lily, well here you go!

My daughter sent these photos of her good-natured yellow Lab, Izzy, who visits our farm occasionally, basking in the opportunity to run free and cavort with Betsy and Buster.  I’ve never caught her in the act of sniffing flowers here, though!

Izzy Lily 2 Yes, the Izz-ster loves water, too!  If there is a mud puddle in the vicinity, she will run right over and splash around in it!

Today my son and I were gone all day on a college visit. (Sniff, sniff, boo-hoo, I can’t believe my youngest will be heading off to college next year!!)  I guess I won’t say where we went, but it was out-of-state.  We live 90 minutes from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois…..so take your pick.  We did cross the Mississippi River, however, so that fact narrows the state choices down to two.

As we neared the big bridge, I tossed the camera at my son and told him to snap some pictures.

He liked the way this next one turned out:

I’ve been an unfaithful blogging friend of late.  Sorry about that.  I do wish all of you well, truly I do, and hope to get back in the swing of things soon.

We used to have a yellow lab that would do things like that, she loved the water too! Also, a chocolate lab that loved rivers and lakes but hated the pool, she had a ginormous need to get into anything that was related to food...they are so funny.
I love the pics, the ones of the bridge are really cool. I'm going to have to check out my geography skills and see where you were..;p

A beautiful shot of the tower of St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque, Iowa.

But the shot of Izzy's nose and the lily tops all! As they say on the photography sites, Great capture!

Everyone knows that Dubuque is the oldest city in Iowa... well, don't they? So, you ended up in Illinois?

Love Izzy's sniffer shot. She looks like the sweetest pup.

I absolutely love your travelblogs. You take me places I would never dream of going.

Thank you.

Did sniffing the lily make Izzy dizzy? (couldn't resist) Great photo!

I'm glad your son got a photo of the church tower, too. It's beautiful.

The dog nose photo was a winner. Hehe. Labs are such joyful dogs. The son took some intersting photos of the Big Muddy. Looks the same as the view from the bridge in North St. Louis where we crossed. Glad you could take a moment during harvest time to post a blog...even if you had to hand over photography to your kids. Hang in there.

The Izzy photos are great.

It must feel like a momentous change to contemplate that last child going off to college.

Well, I left a comment but don't know where it went. The oldest city, is it Dubuque? The doggy and the flower are cute together up close and personal. Well, whatever will you do with yourself when the baby leaves home, How will you handle the empty nest feeling? I remember how I cried and cried when my baby left home, but I got over it a long time ago.

I've been worried about you (and missed you!!) I cried a lot when my baby went to kindergarten. Your transition to empty nest will be a big one, I'm sure. That baby boy of yours got some of his mom's artistic ability :)

The first pic is oddly alluring!

Hi, jojo,

Thank you for stopping by! Yes, I'm finding out how goofy and hilarious Labs can be!

Hi, Sempringham,

Thanks! I'll pass your good words on to my daughter who took the cool shots of Izz!

And, thanks for looking up the name of the church in Dubuque and providing the link! St. Raphael's.....I had no idea what it was. And, this is cool....the paperback book I'm reading right now is "The Raphael Affair" by Iain Pears, and it was with me on the trip!

Hi, Dairymary,

Oh, my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear of your broken arm! If possible, maybe you can give me the details sometime of how it happened. May you be blessed with a speedy recovery! The heat wave doesn't sound like much fun either.

Hi, Blue Ridge Gal,

That's a clever description....a "sniffer shot"! I like that! Actually, no, we didn't end up in Illinois! There's two bridges over the Mississippi at Dubuque....one leads into IL and the other into WI.

Hi, Maybelline,

Thanks for stopping by! But, you are much closer to the ocean, which sounds very exciting to me! I forget, though, that some folks have perhaps never been to the Mississippi River.

Hi, Pat,

Dizzy Izzy.....that's cute, too! She's such a goofus most of the time....keeps us laughing when she's here.

Yes, I was SO pleased about him getting that shot of the church tower!

Hi, Leenie,

Joyful is another perfect description.....Izzy definitely IZZ that way all the time!

The hay and oats are done for now, so that is good. Got caught up on the lawnmowing in time for the college visit trip. It all just wears me out....I must be getting old!

********

Hi, Ruth,

Thanks for stopping in! Yes, I'm rather dreading this final year of being involved in high school activities....everything will be happening for the LAST time. I need to shore up the fortifications around my emotions before the school year gets started!

**********

Hi, Gramma Ann,

Your words are good. Other people have been telling me that, too.....that I will get over it after a few months. And, I'm sure that is true.....but, here come the tears already, right now, at this moment.....I'm such a sap!

********

Hi, Caution Flag,

Oh, what a sweet comment! I'll be fine, I think. Yes, I cried, too, when my oldest and youngest children started kindergarten. Why IS that!? Why does motherhood make us so sappy!?

I'd better not mention to my son that you think he has artistic ability, though he was very pleased with the photos he took...and, its a rare event for him to take a photo. Maybe I should buy him a camera for Christmas!

Hi, Kevin,

Thanks for stopping in! Yes, that photo is an eye-catcher!
