SkyWatch Friday #51

26th (7)

Greetings and welcome to rural northeast Iowa, USA!  One muggy morning last week I was trudging down the lane to the mailbox and noticed these clouds overhead.  Can you see the slight streak of pink in mid-right area of the above photo?  I wonder what causes that phenomenon?

Zooming in a little bit more, there is also a bluish streak evident in the lower left area of the next photo:

26th (9) And, zooming in even more…….(you can see the spots on my camera’s lens)…….and, hopefully the pink and blue areas of the clouds, too.

Excellent! If I recall from my How and Why Wonder Book of Weather, those are cirrus clouds, aren't they?

Wonderful shots! I can pick out the pink hue in the clouds in the photos. The second photo looks like a giant winged bird to me!

Sweet, Jeannelle! And hey, my lens does the same thing.

The pink streak is neat.

I love looking at the sky and clouds but know little about it.

I always wonder what causes the rainbow type of effect sometimes in the west, in the summer I believe? Reminds me of a quartz crystal in the sky.

Hi Jeannelle,
Looks like someone was painting the sky with watercolors. (But, I don't think that's the scientific explanation!) Have a nice holiday.
