Burning Bush & Birds

Our burning bush is still very much in flames.

While taking this photo I noticed a bird nest hidden amongst the branches.  It is made of little sticks.  I've no idea what bird built it.

Right now we have many blue jays at the bird feeders, and unfortunately also a lot of house sparrows and starlings.  They love farms.  A few days ago I saw a downy woodpecker at the suet feeder and also a red-bellied woodpecker.  One day before that we had a red-breasted nuthatch here to visit.  Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal come to call occasionally, too, looking for sunflower seeds.

I hope you have some birds around to watch, too.  Have a great day!

The house we lived in from 1999 to 2003 had thicket behind it and a creek running down the side of the lot. We saw all kinds of beautiful birds at our feeders — cardinals, goldfinches, redwing blackbird, hummingbirds, even an indigo bunting. At our present house, which is 30 miles north of the last house, I have seen exactly one goldfinch in 17 years and only an occasional cardinal. We do hear geese flying overhead and see an occasional hawk or osprey, but life is a bit different here. We sometimes hear coyotes howling, which is an entirely new experience for us.
