Spring's Comin', Folks!

With the heaps of snow piled up around here, a muddy mess is inevitably in store for us once the temps warm up! Hopefully, it won't be as bad as the above photo, of course.

This photo is from an old album that belonged to Husband's great-grandmother. This scene would have been somewhere in Bremer County, Iowa, probably around 90 years ago. There's a good chance that the muddy road in the picture is what is now U.S. Hwy. 63, a very busy thoroughfare, running north and south through Iowa.
*****************
The farm Husband's mother grew up on was right along "63". In fact, that farmstead was razed several years ago to make way for two more lanes of highway. We farmed the land there for many years, driving our farm equipment there amid the heavy traffic of the highway.
*******************
Husband's grandmother could remember when "63" was a dirt road......she would talk about that as cars and semis rumbled by her farmhouse! Early in our marriage, there was some talk of Husband and I moving to that farm, which I had no desire to do, because of the noisy traffic going by that place constantly. I'm grateful for the quiet country road we live on!

Boy, do I remember the days of mud up in VT. In those days we had dirt roads that went to our chalet. We were always getting stuck in the mud come spring. We carried boards and stuff to help. But I remembered getting covered.
