I got home from church yesterday and had to talk Husband down from HERE.......70 feet up, at the top of "THE MOOSE" silo! (That's what we call it.) The tractors way below look like toys, don't they!

*Actually, he took the camera up there to take pictures of the field which was tiled recently........for record-keeping purposes. (And......he normally goes to church, but this morning he stayed home to unload the last loads of silage and level it off up inside the silo.)

Can you see him up there in this next photo? It doesn't bother him a bit to be up there, but just seeing anyone up that high makes my stomach churn! A crew of Amish guys erected that silo several years ago and they climbed around like ants up there.......I was SO glad when they were finally finished........and, SAFELY!!

Vertigo, Vertigo, Vertigo.........that is what I got while looking at that photo!! I get freaked out going to the top floor of anything in an elevator!! If I had gone up there.....well let's just say, I'd still be there and someone would be calling the local fire dept. to come and get me down!!!!

I just found you through "A picture a day" (Kate) and I too have recently become addicted to taking pictures for my blog. I am a writer, but I'm now spending an enormous amount of time snapping, editing and arranging my pictures.

Interesting that you shared your silo story. My story is not so good, and so I get shutters as I look at the top down...
Now you know why we changed from cows to chickens. No more silos for us.
When I was a child, I remember tramping inside our upright silo, though not as tall as yours. Then my father had a bunker silo built that you can pack with a tractor, and that is what we use on our farm now. A few years ago I volunteered, just for old times sake to help tramp in the old upright silo of our neighbour. It was great, and I enjoyed the excercise, and the view...until, I had to climb down the ladder. I was so scared, but had to make myself do it! But NEVER again, and now I know my limitations. I think you should do a blog! You have great farming experiences to tell about. And, I still say you're a way better dairy wife than me! I've never been up inside the silo. I've been in the bottom when its empty, but not up high. Our kids all would climb the silo.....sometimes after chores just for fun to look around at the countryside....even the girls did. I guess as long as they were climbing inside the cage they were safe.

Goodness! I will admit, on the farm I grew up on (is that proper English? oh well...!) we had a silo almost identical to that.
I had to climb up into it when the silage unloader would clog up - which it would always do if it was raining or colder than *#*!& outside!! heh!!
I never cared for heights - at least not climbing up the side of something like that. But there are times you just do it because you have no choice.
If you have 100 animals that need to be fed and the only way to get that accomplished is to unplug the stupid silage unloader (!!) you just do it.
After a while you get more used to it. But some people - such as one of my brothers - has no fear of heights and thinks nothing of climbing all over grain bins, silos, and so on.
Take care and remind your husband to be careful up there!!!
Wow, too high for me. Glad he got down safely Jeannelle. I'm not good with heights unless I'm fully encased in glass or something. I can do outside elevators okay. But I hate staircases with glass sides and stuff like that, or low railings, which are only hip high. I get vertigo easily. Stay on the ground I say!

I, too, am having trouble visiting other blogs. I mean, I visit but it's so difficult to type with this stupid finger!!!
