Slip Sliding Away

Yesterday afternoon we had a brief period of freezing rain.......
Meaning a trek across glare ice to get to the barn this morning. Buster had already scouted out the slippery situation, and was urging me to ditch the hesitancy and start shuffling across the icy farmyard.
Here's how the door window looked this morning:

And, with a little doctoring up:
*
We were planning to host my side of the family today for a holiday gathering. My mom phoned early, fretting about the icy roads. I said, "We're going ahead with the party plans; if you can't make it, you can't make it." I knew the highways would be sanded by late morning, and drivers would simply need to take their time. My siblings and families arrived here safely......Mom did, too. My sister from Cedar Rapids decided to stay home due to the driving conditions.
*
A pleasant time was had by all, I believe. There were four little kids around, plus middle schoolers, and teenagers. I brought toys down from the store-room; set up Nintendo-64 on the TV; and let my teenage niece use the laptop to catch up with her friends. Everyone was happy. We all played UNO for awhile, too......and laughed at the young ones knotting themselves up in a Twister game.
*
Now, everyone has gone home, leftovers have been stuffed in the fridge, and I am exhausted, but pleased with how the day went. Hooray! The holidays are OVER! Yippee!

What an icy mess! Ek! Not sure I want to ever have to tackle that again. Funny...it is still around 60 here tonight. Crazy weather!
Sounds like you had a lovely day.

Farmers are dye-hards. We've just had about 12 inches of snow and trying to get the grain truck in to our yard and trying to get the chickens out to the processors. Oh, what a mess in schedules this snow provides, but I just keep plugging along. No wonder my kids don't want to farm. It's 24/7 at times.
Take care and I love hearing about your farm life. It's 11:30pm

Love the frost on the door pane photo, Jeannelle!

We're expecting freezing rain here today, I fear. Fortunately, I don't *have* to get out in it; I can just hole up.

Hi, Marg,

Oh, my....you have alot going on, and then battling a foot of snow, too. I hope all goes well. We debate around here about which is worse.....snow or ice. Neither is good, but I especially dislike ice underfoot.

Hi, Pat,

Yes, by all means, stay in and off the ice, if possible. Take care!

Sure, that's where I'd want to be, out there in the barn! You are hardy souls...
