After the basketball game mentioned in yesterday's post, my married daughter and my son and his wife, dined at HuHot restaurant in College Square Mall in Cedar Falls. It was fun to attend a game in a big town for a change, providing many options for eating out afterwards. My married daughter suggested eating at HuHot, a restaurant I'd been hesitant to try before as I'm not a daring diner.*
Instead of twiddling my thumbs at a red light on University Avenue---the main drag running through Cedar Falls and Waterloo---here's a photo. College Square is aways down the six-lane street, and to the right.
At HuHot, you line up to fill a bowl with your choice of uncooked meats, noodles, vegetables, and sauces. Then you proceed to where very enthusiastic chefs are waiting to dump your bowl of food on the flat, round grill. Honestly, I didn't ask these guys to pose......the sight of a camera transformed them instantaneously into hams. Would you eat food cooked by these fellows?
In the above photo, my heap of victuals is in the background, beneath the upraised spatula. I took too many noodles.
One becomes almost mesmerized by the steamings, flippings, and slashings of these colorful conglomerations. When sufficiently cooked, your pile of food is plopped back into your bowl and handed over to you with a flourish. If you're still hungry after eating it, you can retrace your steps through the grilling line for another helping.
It was a very delicious meal, and rather nutritious.......I downed enough vegetables to fill my quota for several days. Don't hesitate to eat at a place like HuHot.......its tasty and fun.*

I am glad the meat was butchered. I once went to a place and I had to pick out the lobster I wanted to die. Could not do it! I had shrimp that was already deceased.
Mmmm, sounds good. We have a Nakato's in Spfld. that cooks the same way.
We have a HuHot at the mall here. I've never been there, but my kids have. For fun we started calling it Hohut and now I can't get that out of my head. I hope you had a good trip today, and I hope you blog about it, maybe with pictures.
~We have a similar place here. I thought it was a fun dining experience. I didn't especially enjoy the process, though, of carrying my food around and then having everyone else see how much was in my bowl.
~Hope your daughter is feeling better. Sounds like she was miserable. I did not become a nurse for many reasons - lack of compassion one of them!

Yum! Looks good. I recently dined at a similar restaurant in an adjacent town, the Crazy Hibachi Company. I got a bit carried away with the Szechwan seasoning when I filled my bowl but, with the help of frequent sips of cold water, I managed to clean my plate.

Oh it is fun once in awhile to go to this kind of a restaurant. I never know what choices to make, Decisions, but once it is put together it is very tasty. Glad you enjoyed the food and veggies.
I love noodles, veggies and anything spicy (not to mention hunky men cooking my food) so, it seems like the ideal place to me? How do I get there?

Actually, I wouldn't mind having a small grilling surface like this in my kitchen.....but the ceiling would need a big fan or it would be grease-spattered all the time.

Yeah, it was fun to see men cook for a change.....men don't cook around my house. I wouldn't mind if they did, but they are too busy with their own work.
