Postcard From Daughter

SAVE0003

This is a much more pleasant subject than healthcare reform…….a postcard we received yesterday from our daughter who is spending the summer in Germany.

The note on the back says:  This card is from Trier, Germany.  IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!  We toured the Porta Nigra (circular columns), and the Das Dom (a huge cathedral), tons of shopping, food, history, fountains, and fun!  Really, the only negative here is having to pay to use the bathroom……ugh!  (She commented to us last week about the apparent scarcity of SOFT toilet paper “over there”, too.)

Happy first day of July!

Pay to use the bathroom??? And what does one do if they don't have cash on them? YIKES.

Glad she is enjoying herself on this trip.

It certainly sounds like she is happy, and that must be very comforting for you. I remember having to pay a dime to unlock toilet stalls in some large cities like Boston and New York. Sometimes it worked out to smile nicely at the woman exiting a stall and she would hold the door for us to go in next without paying. Wow! That was a long-buried memory.

Hi, Blue Ridge Gal,

Haha....I'm sure one would quickly learn to always have some coins or cash on hand!

My aunt visited Europe back in the 60's and she told us this about bus tours in France: Every so often the bus would stop by the side of the road and everyone would get out and do their duty right there along the roadside.....men and women alike. I would say YIKES to that, for sure.

Hi, Caution,

Yes, I'm feeling much relieved that she sounds relaxed and happy now. She was in the Swiss Alps over the weekend. I can't wait to see pictures.

That's interesting about the pay toilets in the big cities. First I've heard of such in the U.S.

I guess one never leaves home without some extra $$$ for the bathroom! What a strange thing to have to do. Beautiful postcard....sounds like daughter is enjoying her trip abroad.

Happy July 1st to you too....=)

Hi, Deserthen,

My daughter called this afternoon. I asked her what she would do if she didn't have money for the restroom. She said, "Jump the fence!" She said that's what some of the guys do.

Oh, what a wonderful expeprience for her. And yes, I do remember the joys of foreign toilet paper.
