The assortment of annual flowers included a sunflower! Now in full bloom, it waves and nods bright wishes to anyone who passes by!
Even to kitties, though I doubt they notice. I needed to to catch some shots of the gray one today…..she’s headed to the East Coast tomorrow to her new home! Boohoo!

sweet corn..yummm! And the sunflowers are gorgeous..I couldn't grow them to save my life this year, must have been the crazy weather. Boo-hoo. bye,bye kitty..;p
Beautiful sunflower. Fancy that little grey kitty going all the way to Virginia to it's new home. Pleased to see my little sandy favourite in the pic too.

one of the best things about summer is fresh corn! please tell me how you freeze it.

Sunflowers, sweet corn, and kitties, three of my favorite things.

Gorgeous sunflower! I've got one volunteer (probably from bird feed) that's found it's way into my new corner bed. Gardening Daughter wants to pull it out, but I want to see it bloom. I haven't had a sunflower in the yard in ages.

Freezing sweet corn - I can tell it is the time since my family in Ohio is doing the same thing. What a job! But - it is well worth the effort when you eat that sweet corn in the winter!

As for the sweet corn.....fortunately, my husband and son did the picking and husking of it. I blanche the ears for 5 minutes in a big canning kettle of boiling water. Then put the hot ears into cold water in the sink for a few minutes. Then, in a big cake pan, I cut the kernels off with a sharp knife, scraping the cob, too, to get the juicy parts left there. I bag the corn in pint-size freezer bags, adding just a little water, also.
That is how I do it, though I know there are other ways to process sweet corn. Some people cut the kernels off first, then cook them with sugar, before bagging.

Wow, you had a busy day today, - I wonder how you had energy to go to the computer! You freeze corn just as we do here, only we never add water. Only add a little milk when we cook it to eat it, and sometimes a little sugar. I won't be able to cut corn to freeze this year, unless my 2 sisters volunteer to do extra - maybe they will, if I say I will help with bagging. ( the cast is off, but not much strenth in my wrist yet).

Freezing sweet corn is very tiring. I know this for a fact. So maybe all of us lazy buns will come to your place this winter for some fresh corn, right?
