Around these parts, big bushy elderberry plants grow wild and are generally considered weeds. Right now, the berries are ripe. I’ve never picked any for eating---I leave that up to the birds. My grandmother used to come to my house and we would gather ripe elderberries. She would make and can the juice to be made into jelly later..it was so good.. I have read about fried elderberry blossoms but have never tried them, could be a fun thing to try sometime..love the pictures!!
We just discovered that my parents have an elderberry bush growing on their property! The berries are getting ripe and almost ready for picking. Don't know if mom will be up to making any jelly or not though. My Nana would pick wild elderberries and she made the best jams and jellies out of them!
It was fun seeing the stages of the berry in reverse! Clever!
Great jelly and great wine. I love just them off the bush.
