December 23rd
We're in the Christmas shopping season so naturally I decided to visit a museum. There was a reason for that decision---an exhibit entitled "Privy to the Past". Privy to what past, you might ask, but you would be asking the wrong question. In this case, "privy" means an outhouse and everyone knows what that is, right? Yes, its a hole in the ground with a little house on top of it. The "Privy to the Past" exhibit contains items which have been discovered inside various privy holes in our area. Not THOSE items, but bottles of the apothecary, soda, and liquor variety. Members of an antique bottle collectors' club study old plat maps to find saloon and hotel sites from the past. Then they get permission to dig there in hopes of uncovering buried treasures in privy holes. The exhibit was enjoyable to view as old fruit jars and bottles are an interest of mine. More fun than Christmas shopping. Tuesday, December 21, 2010

December 17th
Many years ago I bought this Christmas puzzle at a rummage sale and finally this year I decided to open the box and put it together. It fits in nicely with our other Nativity scenes displayed in the living room.Thursday, December 16, 2010

Burning Bush in Winter
Hey, take a gander at what I just posted on Paintbox Pictures blog. Its a doctored photo of how our burning bush looks right now as we shiver in the deep freeze of winter. Red leaves are gone but red berry things remain. All I did was click the watercolor effect button on Photoshop Elements. It looks cool as a computer screen background (as any photo does, of course). Colored Lights and Cookies
An ordinary string of colored lights can make things appear special. Would the reverse be true?

Today I frosted cookies of the gingerbread type. Not men, but stars. The recipe included its own version of frosting: 1 package Knox gelatin, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup warm water, 2 cups powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt. Bring the first three ingredients to a rolling boil then turn heat down and simmer for 10 minutes. Pour over powdered sugar in a bowl and beat hard until thick. Then frost the cookies and enjoy.

Still Here Still Life
After an exciting round of mixing up cookie dough and washing dishes, the wild notion came over me to do a blogpost. Good thing, for after three months of not blogging, I hardly remembered how to do a post. Yes, I’m still here, in midlife and in the farmlight.
